I understand that he's semi letting him go due to his sister's own personal desires. But honestly, he's scum that deserves what's coming for him. If he's truly regretting his actions, then good for him to suffer eternally in this way. Though honestly it's pretty lenient considering that he could just rip his soul, reincarnate him, wipe his memories selectively, tear his soul apart, reconnect his souls, make it into a chimera, etc etc etc.

And also, all of the attempted trickery was obviously not going to work on Raoul. Again, he's a god at this point. And he has shown that he can read minds and souls.

I'm more interested in if he's going to do the heroic thing at the end of it all after tearing out all the villainy of the world through his obsessive revenge and recreate the world into a righteous one, since he still displays heroic tendencies.

Remember, when he starves to death he goes to the underworld that Raoul controls. He’s not getting off.

And he may not died from starvation, like one of the mage who stayed alive in the fire.

It is a cruel mercy he did show him there. he is in no way lentient to him. he is literally letting him suffer heavy guilt and fear. everyone who did try this.. knows it is NOT a fun thing to feel like that.. so looping it forever or until he dies..it is a living HELL.
A quick death is preferable over this.

The real question is, what will happen to him when he dies? We all know the clowns in hell who betrayed Raoul are getting their own personalized version of suffering. Regular scrubs in hell will get the new streamlined version of suffering now but what about him? A person that has betrayed Raoul but must be given some degree of mercy due to his sister's wishes.

I'm pretty sure he will suffer when he gets there but I'm a bit curious as what it is as he has fallen to the grey spectrum for Raoul.

But... Since genuine, until-you-fucking-die regret is what gets your soul properly clean and ascended for sinners in this Verse, you can't just strip down people and burn it all away.

This was the smart choice, given everything, because only the sister has the right to pass final judgement here. That, and if he cannot pass that miniscule bar, then he'll get eternal torture anyway.

I hate to be that guy, but at some people are irredeemable which makes her an idiot. Sorry really, but at some point she gets part of the blame, that's beyond being a good person or taking his part into account. I don't like this writing at all - her behavior was basically self destructive at the end.

He will die knowing that he had someone that love him deeply and he just threw her away... and then he will get to hell, where his sins, which are plenty will fuel the creative new punishments the minions will enact upon him.

Unbearable sadness may not be as flashy as dismemberment... but i kind of guess that is Raul´s way of showing pity

It's amazing that although everything Raul has been through and everything he has done, he isn't the true monster in this series. Despite his quest for revenge, he still retained part of his humanity. Unlike most of the true monsters he is fighting who never truly had any humanity.

I think the side effect of that Hell Arc (intentionally or not) is that Raoul can afford to do more "merciful" torture to his targets, knowing that in the end, after the prolonged "merciful" torture, those people are still in his grasp.

Also, Bernand's torture is kind special when you think about it, torture and kill someone while they still had satisfaction from what they done, is one thing. But Giving them Merciful Prolong Torture after showing them how their actions weren't that really worth it at all. Mf gonna stay alive in his own personal hell for a while, and then after death, public hell.
