That makes no sense whatsoever! They planned it to have this many chapters to get people hooked to go look into the LN. Stupid!
"axed" just means it "ends". Which it did.

Or if you want, we can stretch it (as some people use it this way, even if the word itself doesn't need to) to "ends before reaching an actual [satisfactory] conclusion, without resorting to ruining the pacing to achieve it [so no 'conclusions' that are forcefully shoved in just to have one]". Which still applies here. In fact, it does even before adding the qualifiers.

I can only guess that this version went it's own way because the anime is on a completely different path. It was pretty surprising to see happen because anime and manga seemed to be pretty much in lock step with each other until they just suddenly weren't. Someone already posted that there were changes between this and the LN. Can anyone tell us if the anime follows the book, or is it yet another version of this story?

I came back to read these comments again after the anime and I don't know how I feel about there only being three volumes of the LN. Why did they start adapting something with only two until recently??? It's so strange. You can see people thought it was just an ad for the LN but there were only two volumes anyway, so what was the point? Can't even binge read that and it's not translated either

THere was ONLY TWO when the adaptation started, but the LN staled and the manga just didn't sold well, so the mangaka just rushed things, also i liked that Mari did fought against the vampire, this alternate take was so nice, so now to read the web novel

I liked the anime more, it added a good drama with Mari being sick.

I still find it strange that this got an anime when the manga was cancelled and (from what I briefly read here) the LN has very little to pull from. As a recent obnoxious girl boss said, "weird, weird."
