Am I forgetting something? While he was retired, I don't recall him being in hiding, especially since Masakatsu was able to just be like "here, get this guy to teach you" at the start.

Was there something I'm not remembering in the setting that would have forced them to go no-contact?

E: Now that the servers have un-bricked themselves and I can reread the series: C4p18: "You've been avoiding him (probably a non-gendered word that was defaulted to male) all this time" and "You've been ignoring all my messages"

But if he were actually in hiding, or seriously avoiding his party members, he shouldn't have been as easily found as he was at the start, nor roped into being a trainer that easily. Maybe new girl just respected him enough to not draw unwanted attention to him since she's still active and he's dealing with some trauma, but still.

But whatever. This is a small enough thing that it can get patched up with a "don't think about it that hard"

From what I understood, he actually did go into hiding and simply kept in touch with Masakatsu, who then took the chance given by the missy to get him out of withdrawal, or something.

I get the sense that it's the kind of job where you can "disappear" by just... not doing it anymore, and after The Incident, dude wanted nothing to do with dungeons. Most of the younger fans have no idea who he is as somehow it was all Old Media back then. Inciter looked to be some kind of tragedy where his teammate (and probable love interest) got randomly wormholed into the Dungeon Dimension or something on a raid when it was only her, Fuyuki, and Masakatsu, with the 4th member away that day.

Pronouns can be weird, so I wouldn't read too much into prior mentions of that other member being a "he." Or maybe this is an unrelated heart-eyed weirdo their livestream drew in.

Just an FYI for page 24 -- "hoard" is most often used as a verb (i.e. a dragon hoards gold), you want the homonym noun "horde" to refer to that group of undead.

And here I was somewhat expecting him to say “the bigger they are the harder they fall” (or the Japanese equivalent of it) based on what the chapter title is.

Also our MC saying that the strategy was just “hit’em hard on where you think will work” isn’t exactly educational. :ROFLMAO:
