How is what the ex's doing not stalking and/or harassment. Could call the cops on her.
Right?! I’m going absolutely bonkers that this lady is allowed to show up and harass one of their employees and the boss is just like “Well she’s a customer so I can’t just bar her from coming! You’re fired.” Like genuinely unhinged behavior
It makes a huge difference when you expect cops to make things better. Even a friendly cop with an attitude like the security guard is a risk in a prejudiced system. It stuck out to me that he was brought up out of nowhere as if performatively sidestepping the issue of getting security services involved. "wouldn't it be nice if we could have called someone like this uncle lol oh well"
I hate it but without knowing the city I can't judge the manager too harshly. Her cowardice isn't abnormal; a lot of straight businesses would fire someone for loss of face like making the store or employee look rowdy. Harmony being broken (and any suspicion of lower receipts a few days in a row) leads to cutting off anyone involved. But she also has some more complexity than a straight-catering business would, from police who have more social leverage than most countries or towards non-minorities, the legal and reputational risk from the clearly unhinged ex, and the Pei family. Interfering means involving whatever circles the participants have, and Pei Qian has no backing.
It's realistically callous boss behavior for many, if not most countries.
