She was probably expecting not much.

You see, she doesn't strike me as being old enough or experienced enough to have ventured outside of her own country much. And if this is true, then she only really has the Nobility of her own country as a reference... Which, we already know, is pretty well rotted considering half of them support those two imbecilic sadistic pig-brothers.

And thus, her messengers got grilled like eels because this Nobleman is a proper border-territory noble - one who knows his shit and has his shit together in such a way that he never needed to stoop to the Princess's level to protect his territory. (Although, granted, the recent monster stampede was a lot more than he was planning for, but hey...)
