In every version of the story MC hasn't been shown or expressly stated to have stronger feelings for either girl. Especially as Himari picks up steam.

Both girls have entirely agreed to pursue him, in every sense. Alls fair in love and war.

Until he makes it clear that he is in love with one or the other, neither side is a "snake". Akane chose to maintain their friendship despite them loving the same guy and it she ends up in the cuck chair that's on her at this point for trying to go up against a person who is far more capable than she is.

Their bickering is not something he comes to love after a while, it is not some external information that is only developed in the novels. This is how he always thought.
