Its nice you are doing two chapters at time.
But it would be nicer if you guys did one of the new chapters and one of the chapters you skipped instead. Still allows you to do the fun part without people needing to wait till its over to keep up.

I will forever loathe the bin familial punishment trash collectivist system

also, I do love how things you think don't relate and seem like harmless one offs all tie into things later. The writing is amazing
It also has historically proven to not actually work as a deterrent.
So both shitty, cruel and not efficient at all.

Well, this is really sad. Even when I was spoiled about Loulan's ending, this all came as a surprise. In the end, this insurrection plan was a failure, but not because of what they thought it would be but because one of them, Loulan, after being horribly treated, went and destroyed their firepower and freed their slaves. Sweet irony. I guess this is Loulan's revenge.

She killing the kids was definitely a shock. I understand why she did it but I can't help to think that she could have sent them with the other men she freed. But I also see how that would have ended in failure for both of them. In the end, this shows the extreme reality of this world.

Even if they don't know, killing this clan would mean eliminate the queen mother's blood for good. So there are no more legitimate child heirs out there.

I also want to know why Loulan brought Maomao. The only one who was discovered was Sui Rae, so why bring her along? They could have left her outside the palace, or inside tied up. But they carried her all the way to the village. Why?

Thanks so much for the translation 🙇‍♀️

Can't people read the other version of the series to catch up? There's minor differences between the two but they follow the same source.

people really use modern standard to judge historical practice. the key point is installing fear and gaining legitimacy. this is the only method that realistically can they do at the time.
Doesn't change the fact that it was ineffective in doing that.
And even back then, it was considered a tyrannical act.

Can't they just post in order and catch up the normal way? Therels minor differences between the two but its fun to find even if they follow the same source.

To be less facetious. Its fun seeing that MaoMao's mother died before she got to the rear palace in the WN but from the LN forward she gets redeem by Lakan. Or the Anime adding a scene where Lihua stroking Maomao's head when shes resting from taking care of her. Its also more coherent to read a story without skipping parts and there a lot of readers that will stop reading and wait only to see they have a big backlog and stop caring.

She overtook maomao as my favorite character when read this (and the events soon to follow) in the light novel.
She’s a really incredible character!

Really interesting bit of Shisui/Loulan characterisation here. It feels like her identity as "Shisui", the laundry maid who can see her half sister and who collects bugs, is who she really wants to be. However the pawn "Loulan" who is the emperor's concubine is what she is forced to be by her mother. Even when killing the children, she did it out of compassion (her stating it was "medicine") because she knows what awaits them.

I doubt things will go well for her, but I really do like her character as we have now been shown.

I keep remembering the tears and smile at the end of this arc. Thanks for fast updates.

There's reason why they bring Maomao but it's big spoiler, the hint is medicine & familial punishment.

It also has historically proven to not actually work as a deterrent.
If anything it worked as an incentive for other people to keep stuff covered up to avoid collateral damages. We have records of guys being like 'I know X is doing Y but if I say anything, it's like 300 people getting killed for it so I'm turning a blind eye'.
