The elite knight order commander completely has our boy figured out, is obviously smarter than he is, and yet at the end of the day, still has a big ol' childish crush on the gate guard... I'm way too easy if one character is all it takes for me to be like "let's see where this goes."

Okay, actually, I'll admit that his whole "I must not interfere or stand out" schtick being rendered moot in chapter 2 by revealing that he's been casually made by a main character, off-screen, before the story started, is pretty funny.
Bonus points that he either doesn't know or doesn't deem important yet the way she figured him out, and just hand-waves it.

It has nothing to do with religion, it has to do with being an official, government position. She is even wearing those sqaure shoulder-ornaments that ye olde military had. She has a uniform. Yet not at all.
The design is not "fine", it's moronic.
