Another question, i wonder if smoking or drugs have any effect on magic girls. Maybe its just the taste? It was mentioned that they're unable to get drunk.

The metal thing is something an old comrade gave them to use instead of cigarettes. It's just a sturdy metal rod with similar size and shape to a cigarette that MC can also chomp on a bit, no special powers or functions.

IIRC comrade is deceased in a past battle.

soo still not entirely sure where this will lead. the hero thing is corrupted,
and i dont realy see how beating up hero will change the public view to the heros or make them stronger at all

It's kind of like, they're weeding out the heros that are just in it for the money and fame. If they're still willing to be a hero after getting hurt and suffering, then they're in it till the end.

Like that wind girl, she's just in it for the fame, and she worries about kill stealing and stuff. Compare with the healer girl who's willing to risk her life to save other people.

That's probably the mindset.
