Seeing the comment about the LN going on hiatus it seems like it didn't sell enough, it was a good story and din't fell in the usual cliches, at least for the childhood arc, unfortunately there are too many isekai, readers can't follow all of them and gems are buried by the mud.
The manga had to follow, this was a good artist, not a no name or newbie that needed a springboard, so they clsoed it like this, to make readers get interest in knowing more and check out the novel, but near to zero chance of it restarting in the future.

Why is it adapted to manga if the novel's fate isn't yet decided? Are the editors sadists, leaving us hanging like this and enjoying the sight of it?

It seems like if publishers think one of their new LNs has good multimedia potential they start on adaptation plans really early on.

One of my favorite webnovels, Ookami wa Nemuranai, had its LN axed after 2 volumes due to poor sales - and its manga got axed pretty much at the same time.

On the other hand you get something like The Faraway Paladin where the LN and the Manga are both amazing, but the author had some personal life stuff happen and stopped writing. The manga is pretty much at the point it stopped - so once it gets there that's it. Nobody could have foreseen that outcome when they put plans in motion.

It's not clear why the LN hasn't continued (it hasn't been officially axed or anything, the author hasn't commented on why, and she's still actively writing shorts and posting on twitter), but the manga ending where the LN ended is expected. The webnovel is completely translated by Clover (just look for starry night) who did a great job and I recommend it to anyone who's interested in continuing. (I would read from chapter 1 because the manga drops a lot of information for flow)

Compared to how other webnovels are treated, this series' light novel was heavily rewritten and polished (it even changed from 1st POV to 3rd POV) so maybe the author wanted to finish writing the webnovel before continuing the light novel (yes, I'm coping). There is always a chance that the LN continues so please show your support to the author by buying a copy if you like it! There are illustrations! The 2 LN volumes also have official English versions that are great as well!

Also are there any metrics to a WN that one can see? I always wondered how successful they are or not, with LNs it’s often known how they did sales wise.

It sucks so hard that the manga and light novel readers never get to see the main story or even learn the main conflict. What you have seen so far is literally an extended introduction. The primary antagonist, several of the key players (and some of the more interesting character) and even the reason that our girl has reincarnated in this world in the first place are all not revealed until she grows up (or at least, reaches teenagerhood), with everything you've seen being basically world building and laying the foundations of the story. There were bits of foreshadowing mixed into this chapter, but that's all.
