...I really don't think she deserved to be subjugated. Like nothing she said was a lie, she wasn't a direct danger to anyone.
The devil’s advocate argument to that is she provides an easy, reliable, and well-known way for people to commit suicide. Leaving her or rather officially allowing her existence there can also be taken as a tacit allowance for suicide. That causes a social issue.

The other, more cynical argument is human being humans. If there is a tree right in the middle of a new road the city is building, more likely than not, they will uproot it, that’s an analogy I would use.
Not that they’re building a road, but she is hurting the guild’s reputation.
Humans are selfish.

All that aside, I actually agree with you.

I also enjoyed the “scum duel” between Kazama and the monster.

Based on the ambiguous-ish ending, I'm not sure this party succeeded. After all, the monster said her roots were so wide, they basically make up almost the entire forest at this point.

That said, I don't think she necessarily needs to be killed. She is providing a useful service and isn't going around murdering people. Humans grow old and die anyways, and if she takes care of them until they die of natural causes, she's providing free end of life nursing care, which is not only arguably humane, but also saves people a lot of money and time.

Hell, the government / adventurer's guild could even charge a fee for it, if revenue is a concern. Wouldn't help much with their reputation, but they could use the funds to expand and hire stronger adventurers to help keep this monster in check if need be.

My guess is that Kazuma and his party weakened the monster, making her less of a threat if she ever decided to change her mind. After all, many weak people and nations changed their minds about conquest once they gained a certain amount of strength.

letting the tree deceive people into thinking it's okay to end own's life might result in dwindling of population, the tree itself is intelligent enough to dig into someone's deepest psychological trauma and desires, it would be old folks at first, but unfortunately, people with insecurity aren't exclusive to old people, soon the number of potential adventures will go down and demon lord armies gonna have the upper hand, the extermination of the tree is based

btw, I'm also curious why aqua megumin and darkness having a meltdown as well, the tree only had a dig on kazuma in this chpt as I can remember

Yeah but as she said and the magic device proved she wasn't lying, she has never deceived people or encouraged anyone to end their own life, and has even talked people out of it.

Damn, I was expecting jokes like "man took "touch some grass" personally", not discussion on whether killing a passive monster is morally right.

That she did, but Kazuma also stated that while it didn't lie it also never told the truth either. It was manipulating its victims to let it absorb them willingly. You never know, with those skills it could possibly start a following, a cult even.

If I recall correctly from the light novel,
the suicide tree monster started to fling verbal abuse at the other three as well as she was slowly dying.
the abuse must be over the top to make even an ever conceited aqua to drop like that :dogewow:
