tbf when I was reading the novel i knew at the third Turning point this was going to happen not because I was spoiled just because Paul is the closest thing to a mentor Rudy has.

"but what about Roxy," I imagine people asking, and I guess you could make an argument, but she never felt like a true mentor. She taught him about magic, the world, and broke through his psychological issues, yes, but Paul was something more of a point to strive toward that Roxy never was. Rudy would never admit it, but he looked up to Paul in a way he never looked up to Roxy.
