I guess the solution would be to have the loli join their party. Especially since they're travelling with the princess who already has ancient magic.
I think explanation about Merlin on pages 9-10 was not told to the MC. It was all in the loli scientist's thoughts.

She used a visual experiment last chapter to prove it to him and yet he insists on doubting that they're talking about the same Merlin. Are you kidding me? Him being in denial even at this point is frustrating to see, if not also beyond stupid.

She basically abused him as training. He has very good reason to think badly of her. A kid you raise the Spartan Way is rightly not going to care what heroic deeds you accomplished. I'm so glad that the reason Merlin is famous in her magical work is because she is literally the only person, ever, in their world to decide "Hey, how about I make spells that do the same things ancient magic does instead of trying to use that magic directly?" and that literally no one else has even tried to despite knowing she did so successfully.
