It's strange what counts as "comedy" in Japan, compared to the West. I think they have a totally different opinion about the meaning of shouting for starters. Shock, shame and embarrassment also seem to be considered "funny" over there. I really can't get my head around it, but most of this stuff is just cringe.
I understand the difference between JP and western's comedy, but I don't think the part about funny shock and shame is part of the funny comedy. The comedy comes from them being overly exaggeratedly expressed rather than embarassment itself, just like how slapstick is about slapping ppl they go ragdoll, yet we always find them funny. Tsundere is not about the comedy, but more about an archetype that the Japanese found as adorable. Likewise, misunderstanding can cause hilarity, not because of misunderstanding causing the embarassment.

In that sense, despite the cultural difference, there is something universal about the value of comedy.
