Well, you could go the route of having taking 50 manga chapters to cover the prologue. I've seen a few do that.

I prefer it when the setup (that’s usually similar to like 1000 other isekai prologues) doesn’t take forever, but It would be good if the pace slows down once it establishes itself.

He doesn't seem too concerned about his friends that are going to die on the front lines - though I suppose there's little he could actually do for them, at this point at least.

He knows when his friend will have their deadly encounter as he is 100% certain they meet again (PS: from his reaction to seeing them again I assume it was the girl). I think part of him speedrunning his old training and skills is to be there when it matters so I think he does care. He mentioned he took breaks before due to his depression.

Basic training would take a while, and they wouldn't be sent straight to the front lines, as their summons are too valuable to throw away like that. There's probably a good amount of time before that would happen.
He also said he'd meet them again, which would likely happen before they go into whatever battle they could die from.

I like the characters, setting, plot lines, and overall vibe of this story. But it seems in a hurry to run through the setup for the manga. As if the author doesn’t have the confidence the manga shall do well.

Thing is, it would be one thing to be SLOW if he had a VISON of his "Future!" But this is him playing New Game with all his knowledge from the Future he squandered. So he has to rush (especially as he said, a WAR was incoming and would be nasty so best to PREPARE for the inevitable) It would be "rushing" if he got a Mansion at this point!

Dealing with "the thing at the North and the Missing Kid" wasn't in his knowledge banks BECAUSE he kept to himself in his self-loathing" so those things caught him off guard (as he had to be reminded because he likely forgot because it never effected him, Normally "Slum Kids are left alone" so the fact he WASN'T is a cause of concern!

I mean after the Mansion and the missing Kid, MAYBE a side chapter on his friends would be nice, like show how his actions caused a Butterfly Effect that may have changed their fortunes (it's likely they BOTH died, one in the war and the other as a Healer in a Bad run as an adventurer) would be nice if he DOESN'T lose his friends, and interestingly enough he never set out to change their fates, accepting their fates were set in stone (His whole life never seeing them again likely make it EASIER for him to accept the inevitable, hence the best he can do is change HIS fortunes as least, something WITHIN the realm of him to do! So to find they DIDN'T die would make it an welcome unintentional unless somehow he DOES get a chance to change their fates and takes it!)

That's probably how good the alcohol was, that saying he was after a chick was enough to convince the old man.

Double so if the old man knows the kid was basically risking his life just trying to show his face to him, while realizing the danger he was in.

Basically, having guts, motivation, and the capacity to get good booze. Old masters in the dumps have trained kids for that price since times immemorial.
