Story after story authors give rapiers to female characters because they are elegant and light. But not one of the authors ever held a rapier in his hands before. They are heavy, as heavy as one handed, bastard sword or katana, but you have to use it with only one straight hand. That's not as easy as it looks. In fact for female characters it would be much easier to use two handed sword or a spear, than rapier, plus it have a better reach for there smaller stature.

A spear would be better, but wood won't transmit the magic well. And a solid metal spear is definitely going to be heavier than a rapier.

Still, 2 rapiers and a mace is a solid amount of weight to carry.

Rapiers are just as heavy as their other one-handed sword counterparts, but the balance of the weight is closer to the hilt, leaving the tip easier to swing around; since that weight is closer to the body, leverage makes it feel lighter, and be a bit less taxing to the body.

For an extreme example of tip-heavy vs hilt-heavy, imagine wielding a sledgehammer one-handed normally, vs holding it backwards (i.e. holding the sledge by the head instead of the handle). Ultimately, the backwards style's going to be just about as taxing, but you won't also be wearing out the muscles needed to maneuver the tip nearly as much.

I have to wonder how effective a mace would prove to be against dungeon monsters; it's effective against enemies wearing armor (you hit the armor, the armor hits the squishy flesh inside, squishy flesh gets hurt by the armor instead of the weapon), but I'm not sure how well it would work against enemies with thick hides, heavy scales, carapaces, etc..

...but I'm not about to go bear or rhino hunting with a mace to find out, so I guess I'll never know for sure. :p

That's why our ancestors were using spears, bows and arrows to hunt down bigger prey. Stick is good, flying stick is better.

yeah i find it weird how they didn't say the mace was for smashing frozen dudes, seems perfect for that

Idk man I thought she's going to choose a staff or wand considering she still not as good using her ice magic

Gravity magic makes me wish for comically oversized hammer but probably not what he's going to choose. :angery:

I've seen an ice mage use a rapier in another manga, and that's what I thought she'd pick here. How weirdly predictable. A mace as a left-handed sidearm is totally unexpected, though.

Alright~~~dual wielding rapier and mace. That's an odd combo i would never pick myself. That mace still gonna be a hindrance in my opinion. Better to use small shield to bash the enemy when they're approaching fast. Of course with pointy spike in the middle. Throwing knife is also solid choice but she needs more training on accuracy and we still don't know how long the ice magic remains in the weapon before dissipating.

Pole arms still the best option here imo. Of course with iron handler for conductivity.

Well. Any weapon he uses will become a very heavy weapon in the end.

Not sure what kind of weapon we'll be seeing though. I mean, him leveraging gravity magic opens up just about anything as a possible weapon. Can't even tell if he's going to go for a blunt weapon, a piercing weapon or a slashing weapon. Or go for all three and choose something like a Bec de Corbin.

I wonder how hard it is to continually use magic in this world, how much concentration does it take and does it have a continuous cost? Wondering if he could easily walk around all day carrying several hundred pounds of gear like it's a coin purse.

That's probably part of the reason she picked it, but the reason he suggested a secondary was to have something to block with. A mace may not be the easiest to block with, but it certainly can take a hit.
