need to know if this was the same in the ln or if the mangaka/editor decided that it wasn't necessary to commit massive warcrimes in the manga
In the WN he bombed the shit out of the city. The dragons came during the night after the city had already been occupied.
It's almost definitely a reference to the dresden/berlin bombing runs of ww2, alot of this arc is referencing the evil vs morally grey to lighter shade of black stance of the 2 sides (depending on perspective) so it's almost definitely meant to be the bombing raids on germany.
Definitely the fire bombing of Tokyo. It's a Japanese story, after all.

For some reason 'firebombing' never occurred to me; my dumb ass thought he was gonna skip right to Mushroom Clouds. But Japan has... issues... about those, understandably so, so of course they wouldn't jump right to that.

I thought he was gonna commit another war crime. Wn/Ln readers was this scene changed?
Never read light novel (more likely where any given change came from is there). It's pretty common for light novel (and thus it's manga adaptation) to tone down darker aspects. Like another series protagonist repeatedly sexually assaulting a 14 year old girl being sloppily edited out.

Anyway, in the web novel Alan basically blew up a whole town with the soldiers in it (the civilians had fled I think?). Alan's cumulative kill count in the web novel might genuinely have reached 100,000, pretty much entirely bandits and soldiers though.

Thanks for the chapter.

Thank you so much for another chapter! You're translations are always much appreciated. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE! Especially given what will likely be in it!

Fire bombs are simple to create. Mushroom clouds require a way to cram a lot (and I mean a lot) of energy into a very small package and doing so in a way that the end product can be hauled around safely. It's not something you can just jury rig in a day or two, whereas fire bombs are.

I'm kinda glad that Allen didn't have to drop the napalm. It's good it showed he really didn't want to and he struggled with the ramifications it would cause. But he was still willing to do what was necessary to save Ana.

Thanks for the upload.

As i said in a previous chapter, it's only a war crime if you can enforce it, considering alan's current stance this is almost definitely not a war crime they can do much about.

War is hell for a reason, we can try to talk about chivalry in war but the truth is if one side holds back it's likely gonna be the losing side simply because the other side is willing to do worse.
So that is why modern wars are all fought with nukes.

Eh? Is it just me or manga just changed that frickin war crime?
Isn't this gonna be a pain later since this way the army as a whole captured cardacia, not just allen. At least his contribution on the assault isn't so high (he still pushed back the enemy's army with his bombing till cardacia)

Bros, what are the chances that the editor removed the bombings to avoid making parallels to the recent Israel vs. Iran bombings?
Zero or very close to zero. Average japs only care and are aware of international political affairs drectly concerning them.
The only times I remember they rewrote or halted an anime or manga series was related to something that recently took place in japanese soil.
