If he is, like you said, going to save Pakis' mom, then I think he is going to sell the grimore for money. In these kind of setting, books tend to be valuable. Still, he is robbing a kid here, so I can't say he is all good.

some cash is probably an understatement this was a big multi-day job by a noble so the pay is likely VERY good. Additionally we don't know how valuable grimoires are so it's entirely possible that it was in fact worth betrayal even if just to run away with the money.

Could be. The writing is pretty solid though, so it could just be a strong setup for development. The author doesn't have any other works listed on this site, so can't look for patterns here.

I'm willing to take a suckers bet at it not being misery porn for the time being, but I do feel like I might want to wait for more chapters to release to binge read.

Misery porn, or depression bait as I call it, tend to start off lighter and get worse as it goes on. This one hasn't shifted that needle much, but is expanding the world building.

Frim is just, so completely stupid it hurts. She keeps trusting people, she keeps making horrible decisions.

And this one doesn't even make sense. Why would the slaves told to obey her suddenly be forced to obey someone else via compulsion. How does he think just telling her not to tell the boss about his theft and actions would somehow make her not do so.
