I don’t think she wants a pet though…just an equal. She’s clearly a top tier in literally everything and only approached MC because she lost for the first time in her life to him.

So rather I think she’s trying to establish a stronger connection between the both of them compared to asahi to establish herself as his dominant relationship and become the person he confides in and vice versa because she believes he’s someone who can understand her. Someone she can vent whatever to.

She doesn’t like Asahi’s relationship to Ryou either judging by how upset she seems when she realizes shes the arcade girl so she also may be doing this because she’s worried about Ryou losing focus as her rival and feels Asahi is ruining him.

Yet at the same time the pondering of their relationship shows she atleast is curious and maybe even envious of their relationship and wants to form something similar with Ryou. Though like most ojou-samas she seems to still be stuck in her interest phase and hasn’t fallen completely for him yet. Hoping for a best girl victory.✌️
I'd be inclined to agree more if her "prize" for winning wasn't disbanding the club that he actively finds enjoyment in.
It's one thing to be like "oh you're distracted from your studies", but that shouldn't come at the cost of potentially taking away the things that actually seem to matter to him. Sure, he himself may have deleted those games off his phone...but she also took his phone from him and made a show of doing it without his consent. I'd have considered it justified to take a swing at someone just ripping my phone out of my hand like that, if it had been a guy doing it.

As far as the Prez's perception of Asahi...again, that's basically saying "oh, this person you care about isn't good for you because I said so, so you need to cut them out of your life." That's outright controlling behavior, and is being a bad friend at best, and full-on abusive at worst.

The only connection the Prez has to MC is that he beat her once out of all their time in school together on some test score, and he personally is gunning for the top spot, ostensibly because good grades mean better opportunities for him down the road. Everything else about their relationship is just her forcing things upon him and threatening to deprive him of stuff.

Which is why I do not want her to "win", and hope she gets put in her place, or at least gets entirely called out on her behavior and why it's so damaging.

Thanks for the chapter.

Funny how fast peoples (and my) opinion of Prez plummeted in the last chapters.

I actually find Asahi sort of... pitiful? Maybe not the best word to describe this but I just feel sorry for her. She's a simple, tries to act tough but is clumsy and a little silly. This dominant, scheming attitude of the president girl is not enjoyable to see in my mind.

Poor Asahi has crippling social anxiety and unable to communicate properly even with the person she feels the safest and is actually in love with.

I genuinely want her to win but also I want her to get educated.

Karen got jelaous of their relationship and asserted dominance but with all honesty why is karen is being exactly like her name a "Karen" the annoying person in the story? It supposed to be asahi you know? But all asahi did was tease him about being an otaku, other than that she is always with him not making him alone, inviting him to have fun in arcade etc. Meanwhile this "Karen" girl just for her own satisfaction tried to throw out and delete all his hobbies and now going after his relationship with asahi too. Thank you for the translation.

Oh by no means am I saying she’s Innocent. I’m just saying what I think her motives are and how they’ll change. Because she’s an ojou-sama trope who’s in her bratty rich kid stage. Thats why she grooms MC into the perfect person for her. Someone at her level and who thinks similarly to her because she thinks thats the ideal state to be in.

She also does look down on Asahi as I stated because she feels shed tarnish Ryou and only finds Ryou special because he’s someone who can compete with her and be better than her if he tries. Ultimately, She’s a typical rich kid type but thats why I find it to be interesting to see how she changes because she wants to have friends but has never met another person before and is obssessed with having a rival.

Also the club thing is Ryou’s fault for not reporting to student council as Prez said so she’s doing him a favor by not shutting down the club without some competition. Her reasons are selfish of course but objectively speaking she is doing him a favor

I went from greatly preferring asahi to full on hating on prez in the past 2 chapters. got me seething at her bs. just straight homewrecker behaviour here. this is just straight up NTR from asahi's pov. she is the high spec power abusing senior that comes outta nowhere to forcibly steal the childhood friend and show it off in front of the her face to rub it in. shes actually an NTR villain incarnate in my wholesome childhood friend romance story.

and shes just an arrogant twat in general. its like the tsundere vs just hates you meme except its the bratty childhood friend that likes him vs the cunt thats actually just a menace to him. should've stopped humoring her after what she pulled last chapter in the club.

idk what the author is even trying to pull here. shes been so persistently annoying that seeing this jackass blush just pisses me off further now.

I'll give you the "favor" by not immediately shutting down the club. Not turning in monthly reports is on Ryou, yes.
And yet she barges into the room and starts throwing everything out in chapter 5, even though supposedly she was giving until after the conclusion of their contest to determine if the club would be disbanded.
And I'll be honest - I just read back through all 6 chapters of the manga that are available here, and I personally do not see anything about her actually grooming him into some prospective partner. At least in the sense that it's not explicitly stated, and everything that she's done and said just looks like someone who sees at best a potential rival, but is going about ruining his life and his relationships with others out of what appears to be her own selfish desires. If she actually wants him for herself, then I'd personally sooner see Ryou transfer to another school than risk being subjected to a relationship with her.
It goes beyond "not being innocent" in my mind. Every thing she's done is actively manipulative if not outright abusive to Ryou, and by extension now Asahi. If she's lonely and has no friends (I didn't see anything in the 6 chapters that warrants that sort of view of her), then I hope she gets thoroughly beaten and learns some extremely harsh lessons before the end, because her personality is kind of vile, even if it's from the perspective of "oh she's a rich elitist, they're all like that". That's not an excuse to abuse her authority over others, or coerce them into doing things that could potentially ruin their relationships and happiness just because she personally thinks she's right.
If she does "change" coming to and after this contest, I'm willing to revise my stance. But as of now, she's just a spoiled bitch who thinks her personal might makes right, and that sort of person is only good as a two-dimensional antagonist whose arc should end in humiliation.

I see what you mean and I agree that she does not see Ryou in a romantic sense atleast currently.

I also agree she’s selfish bratty and spoiled. (Lowkey respect the MC for not crashing out about the clubroom being trashed and her intervening into his PERSONAL life that she has no responsibility over). I was just saying she’s fine to wager the club on their bet when the guy didn’t keep up the proper measures. (Though trashing it is a no).

How I interpret her character is she’s arrogant and has no friends. She probably has problems making friends but coming from a rich family feels its other peoples inability to keep up with her thats the problem not herself.

These are obviously my personal inferences based on how she’s only shown interest in MC due to his status of beating her (which prior no one surpassed her), The impulsiveness of her bet with MC when she feels he’s losing his edge, her intervening into MC’s personal life when she feels he’s isn’t serious enough, and now trying to cut off Asahi who she sees as a distraction for him.

She pretty clearly is selfish but also seems desperate for MC to be that first person who’s on her level because she wants someone who is like her or thinks like her. Its why she tries separating him from Asahi or trashes the club and has him delete his otaku stuff because she personally doesn’t see the value in it and thinks what sh believes is right.

In other words she just projects her values onto MC because being an “elite” like herself she believes he must think like her to become the best version of herself because that the only way to progress according to her.

Like I said most of this is my personal interpretation and how interested I am to see how she deals with her flaws. She’s objectively a bad person but bad people are quite interesting to see break down and change.

So yeah agree she’s bad rn and also agree if the story manages to capitalize on her flaws then opinions will change. And if she doesn’t? Then well…I’ll personally skin her alive in the comments.

I should actually apologize - I went back and reread through past comments in this thread and I definitely came at you too strong and made it sound like you were defending the Prez's actions, when I think we're both largely in agreement; I just really dislike that sort of character, let that bias color my whole view of her in recent chapters, and then attacked you when you were just trying to give insight into her potential background and the chances of where her character arc goes in relation to Ryou and Asahi.

So again I'm sorry for being so aggressive before. I think what you've said most recently is a good summation of the Prez's motivation, and now that I'm able to separate my own issues from the story and look at it all objectively, I think I'd like to see her fleshed out more, especially if your predictions are accurate and she's just a lonely girl who can't relate to others and so browbeats everyone else into what she (incorrectly) believes is "best".
I do still want her to lose the bet and then face some humiliation from Asahi for what she's putting Ryou through, but I'd also like to see that change her character and maybe redeem her a bit (read: get her to loosen the stick up her ass and mellow out / make it easier for her to make friends in the future).

And I do want Asahi to win, because I think she's the first FMC with that specific characterization (abusive Childhood Friend toward the MC because she can't communicate her affection normally) that I actually like and don't find repulsive, so I find myself wanting her to "win" and get the guy.

But anyway we're six chapters in so hopefully we get more good plot development leading toward the actual contest soon.

I'm tired of haremshit :fml:
I'm not sure I'd call it a harem (yet), but this setup is definitely just as abused as the harem setup.

With that said, I've actually read one or two good harem manga. I have read fewer good manga that use the setup in this manga. - A guy who has read most of the harem isekai trash and harem fantasy trash in the past 5 years.

If you want something really different, I recommend Ares, a manga about a boy growing up in pursuit of his sword master's murderer.

If you want this setup but done better, try Aho Girl.

If you want a harem that isn't trash, try Mezametara Saikyou Soubi to Uchuusenmochi Datta node, Ikkodate Mezashite Youhei toshite Jiyuu ni Ikitai. Long title, I know, but it's far above its competition.

Yeah thats fine. Lets hope Asahi can start pushing then and prez gets some character development ☺️.

it seems like the titles of the last two chapters can be read backwards to explain this whole chapter.

"lets battle Fair and Square, shall we?""the heck you mean that? You Can't be Serious"
