If a Latin author had to include a line about how incredible tortillas are or an Italian on the wonders of pasta in everything they wrote, how ridiculous would they look?
Although I do remember a decent medieval story where the SI introduces pasta and boiled dumplings and it proves to be popular with the peasantry (though not to the point of replacing bread outright) because
  1. Bread is tricky to make in medieval times - it takes time to fire up an oven (an unless you're a professional baker you might not even have one or be allowed to operate one), and unless you've got the money to take your flour to a baker you're probably going to be limited to making flatbreads
  2. The quality of bread for a lot of peasants is going to be hard and coarse.
  3. Pasta just takes bread, water, and a pot. Dried pasta can also last longer than bread.
  4. Pasta cooks faster than boiling a pudding in a cloth, which was another alternative to bread in medieval times.
So I'd forgive someone for introducing pasta and making it popular. At least that has a decent explanation for why it could happen.

Which would be fair if I wasn't standing in a peach orchard. Nothing about the setting implies any amount of Japanese influence over it. It is stock standard pseudo-European swords & sorcery setting 1A. Given that, why should I expect that any specific aspect of it would suddenly be extremely Japanese to the exclusion of basically everything else?

It would be like setting a story in a very obvious feudal Japan, with samurai and warlords, and it being an isolationist island kingdom and obvious rice paddies or fishery harbors in the background. Only to have a character who is obviously similarly Japanese inspired himself open up his bento to reveal Shepherd's Pie and Churros with no explanation beyond being an opportunity to gush about how good they are.

In the end it's not a huge deal. My annoyance/bemusement is mostly because this is not the first, second, third, or even fourth time I've seen this sort of thing play out in a series, where non-Japanese characters are given often-inexplicible Japanese food so they can gush about how great it is. It's just a weird sort of recurring diversion to notice how heavily some authors seem to want to make a point about their perception of the superiority of glorious Nihongo cooking even when it seems out of place (and unnecessary). And this isn't even me dunking on Japanese cooking. Some of it is great. It just doesn't really fit in a story that is not Japanese in the slightest other than the fact that it's written by a Japanese author.
Lol I read the spoiler and come back to this comment. The Japanese cuisine actually plays a huge role in this. Don't judge something too soon.

This thread in nutshell:
Japanese authors: Damn we love our foods.
Non-Japanese: we are offended that you love your foods.

Like, yeah, I get that it happens a lot in isekai stories and can be annoying sometimes. But it's not like they trash other cuisines or anything. And the main audiences are Japanese, that's why showing a common Asian food is easy for them to relate.
Let me repeat, ASIAN FOOD. You guys are triggered by a common food of a race of people. Most foods in JP isekai are like that too. I rarely see any exotic actual Japanese food like sashimi or natto. Mostly they love the common soy sauce and rice.
Also, sick people eating porridge is a normal Asian thing. Like, do you want the chef to serve her pizza or kimchi?
Whoever say porridge tastes bad is like saying steak is bad, just because you ate one at some terrible restaurant.

I'm certain that if the “new,” reincarnated saintess who knows the “original story” is evil, this will be a part of what finally trips her up. She'll try to use this exact scenario to frame Rachel as a last resort, and succeed only in making a clown out of herself, since the current Rachel wouldn't be able to use any magic.

Well, that's assuming that the fact that Rachel has lost all of her magic would be kept a secret, or that the saintess would somehow remain oblivious to it. Though, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if she remained oblivious even if it wasn't kept a secret, since the reincarnated white lotus bitches are usually stupid as hell, using ONLY their knowledge of the original story, nothing else.
It’s still not public she lost her magic or else the crown prince would be bombarded to break it off with her. Once they find out she’s wheel chair bound the relationship would be pretty much over.
