This has the usual gripes I have with these "villainess" stories so I'll just leave it at that. Actually, didn't we already have one like this...

I can't tell whether I dislike the title or not. Cause like on one hand it does give away the "twist" but on the other, how would anyone have seen that coming otherwise.

The MC is cute at least. I like the closed eyes look

At this point the most reliable character in the villainess genre is the scummy idiot calling things off, but even that's subverted on occasion.

Showing me cute little froggies would've definitely won me over, though.

I'm with you on that one. I dislike the fact that they're using this in a 'villainess' anthology and only paying lip service to the 'villainess' part, but at least it's a fine story that still got me to crack a smile.

If they had just called this a broken engagement anthology, I'd understand a lot more, even if I wouldn't be quite as interested in reading it.

...How was she a villain? This was just an annulment by a villain who was poisoning his father. I mean it's an okay story but how did this fit in the anthology?

Honestly not to say this improves any story in this anthology but I think the point of this genre is less about the character themselves being a villainess or in any way evil and more an examination of the IDEA of a 'villainess' in the story structure, ie a love rival who exists to be in the way of the main couple and give the heroine someone to be challenged by, but instead putting the focus on said rival (or someone on the fringes/outside of that story) and trying to examine the stereotypes associated with each role and outside perspectives on the typical fairy tale or ''''otome'''' romance

The BIG problem being that 70% of this genre just boils down to making the 'villainess' the misunderstood good guy (or good person now reincarnated in evil villainess' place) just as often paired with making the 'ideal' heroine the evil/delusional bitch and any trope examination being surface-level if there's any in the first place

A lot of these writers just want their mc to be the pitiable heroine ramped up by 11 who gets a 'gotcha' catharsis moment where she gets to either prove herself and/or one-up to the people who treated her wrong

This anthology is more about letting the female character put in that 'love rival/rejected fiancee' role get a 'happy end' than it being about a literal definition of a 'villainess'

It was alright, but not particularly special. I do think it's cute that he liked the frogs and lizards enough to think that they were worth giving to her, but otherwise it was probably the weakest of the volume so far.

Pretty contrived but to the very least, there was an internal logic behind why the crown prince is gungho for once for suddenly trying to spring a new engagement. lol

A few people are saying it's contrived but I think that adds to the sort of fairy tale feel of this one. Although, Fairy Tales are often very contrived, but this has a similar idea where there's arbitrary rules, a power that reveals the wrongdoings of others and a Disney-ish happily ever after, lol.

This doesn't absolve the absolutely inane reasoning or how tired some of these character types are, it's just something I've noticed with a few of these.
