No word but this is basically guaranteed to end in 3 chapters with the end of volume 3. The story is tying all loose ends already and the author said from the very beginning it was pretty much canceled unless a miracle happened with volume 1 sales.

I want to hope for the best but the likelihood of it continuing is very low. Nevertheless you should still buy the volumes to show you did like the manga and want more.

About the father, its probably unrequited love (hinting at the previous chapter) the rabbit probably had feelings for him but he already liked someone else (possibly the mom)
