God. Victim blaming is bad but now I feel like Banri deserves anything bad that could have happen to her.
Like seriously why is she dating this guy? It doesn't even feel like he is the type of person to hide his personality acting nice at first, so she probably knew he was an asshole and still chose to date him...?
I'm totally on the theory she is just dating him to get over her likely feelings for Arata but seriously she couldn't find anyone better?

By his shitty logic, if I caved his face cause he looked at me funny, that would be a-okay then, "you looking at me means you issued a challenge"

Gotcha
What a piece of work this prick.

Listen, I don't care how realistic this abuse is, I'm reading a story. You have to make me believe anyone would want to go out with this guy. You have to show me him being at least a little nice, a well crafted outward persona, anything. Relegating it to a flash back, or just saying "he's changed" doesn't cut it for someone so blatantly awful.

as much as the meme is a pulverized horse at this point, this is the author of Rent-a-Girlfriend.

You're reading a story, but that doesn't mean it's quality literature.

Thats the easy assumption, but based on his personality I could imagine him finding the idea of faking his personality to be illogical or a waste of time. Or even if he actually hid his horridness at first, it's weird how openly awful he is now. I can't imagine him being any better when Banri first met him

This isn't about the author, this is about other people in the comments excusing this with realism. This author isn't going to learn anything but the people in this comment section sure can.

oh, your comment didn't make that clear to me
I read it as you complaining about the author poorly writing the boyfriend character by making it hard to believe that Banri would ever be in a relationship with him in the first place.

Probably the worst arc/chapter/set up I’ve seen in this otherwise mature manga. Literally “stealing candy from a baby” type guy, with a girl who takes literal punches for seemingly no reason or obligation, with a brother who thinks everything is “kinda sus” despite witnessing a metaphorical murder.

The set up is so bad that the next chapters have serious work to do to explain:

1. How she even likes him (to the point of it not being really stupid and consequently make her character extremely stupid).

2. Why she has no backbone to fight back the verbal and physical abuse and serious invasion of privacy (because weak people in these stories aren’t weak by default, they’ll have something the story will resolve/heal by the end of their arc, and because it ties into…)

3. Why she continues to stay when it’s entirely her choice to stay with no reason stated other than a superficial one (because she’s fictional-Twitter owner rich, beautiful, no obligations, no sign of blackmail, loving family, yet this is the guy she will jump off a bridge for, this guy better have something interesting over her, honestly for her sake).

4. Why Arata is pussyfooting around after clearly seeing her beaten and crying (because it makes him extremely unlikable and stupid, he literally took punches for his other sister, now when he sees his other sister beaten he’s suddenly like “hmmmmmmm thats what lovers do I guess?” as if it’s some kind of internal conflict or huge revelation on whether beating up your partner is good or bad, again the same guy who stood in front of punches for one sister and fought off rapists in an alley for another).

The heavy lifting this story has to do to explain away and develop these characters given the above is something I’m interested to see… because it looks fucking terrible right now.

Also this BF is literally twirling his mustache at how evil he is, maybe he’s ready to monologue about racial cleansing next.

I wonder how she even ended up with this guy? Was he acting nicer before? Or is he blackmailing her with something? Otherwise she could just leave him there so there has to be something like that.
My bet it's 100% be ause she have incestuous thought about arata and think it's wrong (no offense to the little sisters) so she hook up with the guy probably from her college as a an outlet to put arata away from her mind

What a piece of shit dude.

Really interested to know how she started going out with him. Was he pretending to be good and then changed? If so why did she stay? Does he has some kind of leverage?

Also, this thread is full of people who are, basically, complaining about the story not being rushed, you all literally want "introduction, conflict, flashback and resolution" in a single chapter, chill the Fuck out.

"...but there are people who simply don't see other people as people, and will take every opportunity to prove their own superiority/dominance over others through physical & emotional abuse like this."
I can testify to that; I have to work with a few individuals like that every single day. Such creatures are not only the literal living shit of satan, but they couldn't be more proud of that fact. Thankfully they aren't very commonplace; but where they exist, they wreak all kinds of hellish havoc. Also thankfully, such creatures tend to get their comeuppance one way or another eventually; but when one is removed from the environment, there always seems to be another which takes its place... 😞😒

Your comment says everything I thought about this chapter. The author (who already doesn't have a very good reputation) got into trouble after that. It's a bit worrying what's to come...

This guy is sadly a very real person. He is just like all those "men" who think that Andrew Tate or Joe Rogan have more than 1 brain cell and aren't just a ton of steroids in human form. He clearly is a spoilt rich brat who doesn't realize he himself has no value and needs to put up a persona that everyone else is worse to seem like they aren't just pathetically sad.

The only scenario I can see this making sense is if Kou was the son of the owner of the hospital , that Barni volunteers at and he's using that as a way to blackmail her in some way. Another thing is that it's not really uncommon for people in an abusive relationship to not leave the realtionship. Usually because they're scared that the abuser would do something worse to them if they would try to leave. The only way they usually get away from those kind of realtionships is by telling a family member or just the family in general, which she hasn't done except Arata I guess.

I mean literally why anyone would date some guy like him for longer than a couple of minutes unless they liked to be treated like shit?
Reiji doesn't think before he writes, he's just presenting the guy as a villain and destroying his best heroine, like what???

It has nothing to do with sex, it's just bad writing LMAO

Wait wait wait, what ? What's his deal ? His behaviour is weird. Yes, luxury place is the place that provide luxury experience and unsupervised kid are a bother. But there's some tolerance. And he is looking worse and worse every chapter. Those bruises at Banri's body, posesive (checking her phone), strangely strict for no common sense reason, etc. Arata should beat this guy until he bleeding very much. Move that trained muscle to the brain and make yourself brain muscle and kill him.
