I actually really dislike the trope of a whole chapters discussion being a misunderstanding cause people leave out important words. How can you even talk about anything????
Thats just a feature of Japanese. Since its a high context culture/language, sentence subjects have a tendency to be dropped when its expected that both parties understand whats being discussed, so if someone assumes wrongly, misunderstandings can pile up

Why is everyone whambulancing over a 'misunderstanding trope'? She has been a socially awkward individual since day one and she's only now learning to make a connection with a person rather than a cat, other than her employer who to an extent kind of let her live that disconnect in comfort but wants her to move away from it.

Everyone wants fluff and then fifty chapters of post confession fluff and yeah I get it but this ain't that. It was never gonna be that.

I don't care how they get there, I just want them to adopt the silly fat cat and get an apartment together and she stays weird as fuck for the rest of time.

When I start learning about Japanese I find their grammar very interesting. Some sentence can't be intepret correctly unless you hear the full sentence and know the context first.
:pacman:
that's why I give up. For now.

Ugh this is such an awkward unnecessary misunderstanding. It’s not even funny.. “oh whoops so you’re not being abused at home by your dad, you meant your cat”

Eh :bleh:

And to be clear, I’m not complaining about the misunderstanding trope but rather what’s being misunderstood. Could’ve made it a funny misunderstanding instead of this.

Stop this shit right fucking now.
I hate misunderstanding trope so much i ended up dropping several series because of it, i hope i wouldn't do it with this one.
As I understand it, it's such a common trope because this kind of thing actually happens when speaking Japanese. The language is very contextual and often requires people to make certain assumptions about what word someone is using and how it's being used. It's similar to that homophone joke you sometimes see; people thinking they're being insulted because someone is using one word and they're instead taking it a different way.

Which is harder for us to get because English, as ridiculous as it can sometimes be, is comparatively much more.... I think the word I'd use is "granular." We have specific words for specific contexts and are much more inclined to give additional details.

I see the explanation for the misunderstanding happening because of the Japanese language, but I still have to blame the author for the drastic difference of the misunderstanding.

If someone assumed I was getting abused by my family instead of being overly dotted on, even if it were a misunderstanding, I would be very very unhappy. I'm sure this story will laugh it off with Nekozane seeing it as him being protective and caring, but irl I just wouldn't think about it that way.

People really need to calm down about the misunderstanding going on here. It isn't that bad given the context ironically. I feel people are focusing on the misunderstanding itself and not on the why its happening. What you need focus on is that she distancing herself because for a while now Nekozane has been became super aware of Minato as the opposite sex in a positive way and is having trouble realizing, given her cat like introverted nature. What's important here not the actual misinterpretation from the MC but Nekozane catching feelings. People are being way too quick on calling this misunderstanding bad. I highly doubt it will even continue for that long at least the dad part of it. On the contrary it's propelling the plot forward more then anything. Both of these guys have for a while have not been good at communicating, the recent events aren't even particularly new when it comes to them not being on the same wavelength.

I think people turn crazy when consuming too much romcom, like when you play open world games from Sony after marathoning the newest Zelda games (this is what I did, big mistake), each common trope get extremely old quickly.
In this sort of manga, once you start seeing the threads behind the scene, it's over. :wtf:
