i've had beef tongue steak once, and it was delicious. if they just served me and said nothing, i wouldn't even know it's tongue. it was on the more expensive side, but i guess it makes sense.
You say that, but the animated adaptation of Isekai Izakaya 'Nobu' was kind of ass (though the live action one isn't that much better because they kind of turned it into Shokugeki no Soma in terms of reactions).
Googling the nearest butcher's right now and hoping they have tongue at a cheap price. We stick it in the Instant Pot and that takes away so much of the waiting--I really want tacos de lengua now.
It has a mild taste and tender texture. Not strongly flavored like liver. My mother used to make it, and it did take a long simmer. Peeling the skin was really gross. We ate it as cold cuts dipped in soy sauce with a bit of vinegar.

Shinobu is cute in the anime, but the episodes were very short, and were followed by a live-action filler in which the featured dish was eaten after being made at a selected restaurant. The anime seems to have been made with the cooperation of a tourism organization.
