I don't get why only the first few pages have issues with improper word breaks, but then the rest don't? That's usually an issue that stays "consistent" throughout a chapter...

No they clearly are. If you don't understand why they are you probably never had to take care of menial tasks after work before.

What I mean is, of course they are assholes but they are also a bit conflicted, hence why I said "not absolute", and what I meant about understanding why he got fired, I get that if the menial tasks are taken care of by the guild, and they want you to fuse with other parties to make a supergroup of strong warriors, I kind of get why his role could become unnecessary.

yeah it's like any merger. The company I work with merged/take over a competitor. They got rid of a ton of people that had the same job. They even did it fairly by comparing each person and choosing the better person for the job. Still pissed off everyone though. You work hard everyday and then get told, "Hey! The company is kaput cause our boss got a truckload of $$ to quit. Oh and we don't need you either, here's some pity $."

Since the first chapter gave me whiplash, his party members weren’t this bad in the novel.

The reasoning the novel is more or less the same but his teammates are less cold

1. The guild is merging his party and other parties together
2. The party members in new merger need be platinum rank
3. Tori (MC) hasn’t seen combat since he was Silver. (Ranking is done Bronze->Silver->Gold->Platinum
4. While the novel has his guild leader also say “We’ve been putting our lives on the line. You know you haven’t been doing the same, don’t you?”. He also apologizes nearly immediately.
5. Suzanna also apologizes.
6. Jean the mage is pretty much only one the manga shows apologizing.

I mean I get it they’re trying to speed through the breakup, so they left out the nuance and kept the main points.

Made his party members seem more cold.
