Someone with more background needs to fill me in on this one.
I knew US torpedos in WW2 initially weren't all that reliable. Contact/impact fuse issues I take it?
Edit:
Wikipedia crawl netted me:
- Running deeper than set
- Magnetic trigger causes premature detonation
- Contact exploder generally didn't work
- Not gyroscopically stable, resulting in a nonzero chance to hit the ship that launches it
