Although in this instance it was the ants that killed them, not that the protag group hadn't planned on it.

Anyone that's a fan of Goblin Slayer knows that offing the baby is the proper thing to do.

I think author is trying to draw the line at Humanoid vs Non-Humanoid monsters.

As a mental experiment I replaced "Goblin" with "Wolves". And imagine now this is a puppy.
It changes the dynamic of "monster slaying" a lot when the opponent isn't sapient.

(Also I don't think this manga has goblins that are the "rapey" kind. See fact females exist. And content rating. '"Give unto tropes what are tropes.")
