My takeaway from it was that he told the truth, but his motivation wasn't to protect Gomi. He was hoping that Yumezora would let him have some if Gomi wasn't around.
And now that the plan didn't work, he's going on an incel tirade, probably gonna try to ruin Gomi's life.

I said the same thing last chapter - he was definitely going to use that against her to try and get his turn. Everyone in Amu’s stories is some level of shitty. The only differences are what motivates them into doing what they do.

There was mystery around Yumezora because we didn't know her past, even the other man telling this side of her that Gomi didn't know bring something yet we couldn't be sure if he was telling the truth. Or that Yumezora seemingly confirm it herself but it could be a matter of perspective.
Having a narrator tell her past kinda spoil this mystery. I kinda hoped that we'd know more through characters or something, I guess the author isn't going through this route.
