Yeah, he does.
Like they did make mistakes, him being complacent thinking it'd be the same as what he normally fought, but it still sounds overly harsh. I don't see how any of it was "pure luck".
Maybe it's meant to be "tough love", hate the phrase, given how they were talking outside without the main two.

The golem focused on the girl and suddenly his third leg sprung into action, rock hard and penetrating deep underneath. It missed her and so she stepped all over his third leg to climb up to his body.

Basically they were lucky that the unexpected monster (the golem in this case) was something they can handle.
MC clearly didn't know a thing about what S rank dungeon meant. While he might be strong, he didn't know exactly how strong he was since he was stuck as C rank.
They might have died had they been unlucky and the unexpected monster was beyond him.
