On one hand, these misunderstandings are pissing me off. On the other hand, it's nice to see her friends supporting her throughout all this
maybe she'll listen to her one friend and break up with him next chapter without waiting to hear whatever context she'd initially missed, and that'll be the end of the series with everyone unhappy (except the one friend who I suspect just doesn't like that the FMC can't be monopolized by herself anymore).

I’m not one to take an emergency shift, but a double shift on short-notice? Fuck you. Kick rocks.
Now I can't read Japanese and can only use visual context clues, but looking at raws next chapter I think his manager tries to get him to stay LONGER even so that's fun

Prediction: he's working on a surprise for her that involves the place he works at being completely empty except for the two of them and decorated with Christmas romance stuff. He's telling her he has to work later because it's not ready yet.
Nawh, at 5 pm you'd assume she'd go home since he didn't tell her to meet later.

There's no shot I'd ditch my girlfriend for a second emergency shift. Sorry boss, not my problem.
Counter point, he's also freaking out and looking for any excuse to put things off.

I would figure too, but we haven't seen his perspective yet. This dumb forced drama better end soon.

"Oh no I want my characters perfect from the get go so that there's no story and no conflict and no character growth" What the hell are we doing? These situations are the lifeblood of stories because they allow characters to change and actually have to confront something about themselves in order to do so.
This story was all about changing and discovering things little by little without this overdramatic stuff. If you think they are the only way to make a story good, that's just your opinion and not an universal truth. I for one beg to differ.

No, the guy is seriously annoying here, even if it’s a misunderstanding. What do you mean you set a date and time, then cancel it at the last second, not once, but twice? I can understand the first excuse, that he had to fill in for a sick coworker, but for the second time too? If he truly valued their promise, he would’ve told his manager that he already had plans and couldn’t fill in again. You can’t force a part-timer to work, and what kind of shop shuts down just because they’re one person short?

I seriously hate how this played out. I can already see it going down the route where he gets a raise for working extra hours so he can buy her a present, but what’s even the point, when he’s already let her down twice? It’s just plain rude, not only in a relationship setting but with anyone you make plans with. It shows you don’t keep your word, you can’t fulfill basic promises, and therefore you can’t be trusted.

Fuck that, honestly honor your promises first, surprise aint mean sht when you fail her at the basic level. I hope the girl just go home and dont give him any leeway, make his effort go to waste too.

I get that the drama can be annoying, but removing relationship conflicts from a romance is like removing battles from a shounen action manga. If you take away drama from a slice-of life romance, how long can you go with just characters blushing at each other without conflict? People will lose interest eventually.

Misunderstandings just happen to be the easiest drama to write and keeps most people engaged (but also annoyed lol)

thanks for scanlating!

I mean I agree, this whole chapter has been pretty dumb. I'm just trying to figure out what the resolution is going to be, since I don't think he hates her and I don't think they're going to break up.

fetal position until the next chapter

tbh i don't understand so many getting mad at the story and the characters—the whole misunderstanding trope and everything. honestly the way i'm reading it, it makes sense for these kids, teenagers who have never been in a relationship or been in love before. of course they're hella insecure and are not the best at communicating. yes the misunderstanding trope is there, but it's done well and makes sense for the characters—even the way her girl friends responded makes sense too. maybe it's a little dragged out, but honestly this whole manga has been so good and well done in terms of characterisation that i'm willing to wait and see how things go

thank you for your work once again 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

No one said characters need to be perfect and have no conflict, they just should have faults and conflicts not being obviously made up to create drama that could be resolved by characters not being total idiots that refuse to communicate (in this chapter despite repeated attempts from the boy to communicate) and instead choose to interpret random fragments of sentences in a worst way?

Like I wrote above, the conflicts are fine when they aren't created by author using the dumbest old trope of misunderstanding, especially misunderstanding based on overhearing a part of conversation. It's dumb, shitty, awful trope and any author using it is a hack.

People are completely justified in being mad, because this trope is very overused, very dumb, and it's not even realistic. Why would guy who is seeing something is wrong with his relationship just drop a long-prepared Christmas date over something he has no serious obligation? Why would she chose to not even talk to him for several days, when all she did was overhear him and she doesn't even know what he actually meant? It's not well done at all, it's just as awful as all the other shit-tastic examples of that trope. We've got so many good romance manga going on, manga that can create conflict without saddling characters with idiot-ball that forbids communication, author has no excuse for pulling this. Look at Boku no Kokoro, Polar Opposites, Bisque Doll despite mediocre ending, even something like that simple train couple comedy manga "They Are Still Being Shaken This Morning" manages to have conflicts that are believable without being as dumb and forced. One can even just give them different life roads and troubles of long-distance-relationship, like in Blooming Love, or in some way in Blue Box. I don't even remember when I've last seen this shit trope in romance manga that seemed good at first like this one.

Bro this guy is so fucking infuriating. What is this communication?? Yeah, christmas might not be an important holiday in Japan, but canceling twice? With someone you like??? Not even fighting to leave work? What a spineless loser. I'll most likely change my opinion in the very next chapter anyway, but it's just so annoying every damn time. Is this based on some weird Japanese stereotype of how they take work very seriously? Where does this idea come from, that you can't put your foot down or say no to your boss no matter the situation.. it's ridiculous.
