In addition to open fires, they should probably be very careful with metal, since those also cause sparks.
As someone raised in an Asian house, chopsticks are something hard enough that being able to do it was a sign of growing up. It does make eating easier though. Picking up small bits of food, picking out the edible bits from the inedible ones, and also picking up delicate things like tofu. Human brains are wired to judge tension extremely finely for the sake of grabbing things gently and chopsticks capitalize on that.
I do appreciate that the Japanese dish is still falling behind the European one. Though I'm not sure that's how it would have played out if it was introduced like this in history.
Also, are the noodles supposed to be softer and smoother grains? I get that it's boiled but like...if we're dealing with black bread, I always assumed it's a matter of wheat processing and/or preservation.
