I'd argue the king decides the next head of the family when there's a dispute big enough to warrant it.

I looked at the Sauli chapters in the other language's translation. There was nothing worth looking at in there, why did we even have that chapter? It only somewhat shows a bit more that the stepmother have been the one responsible for Bernadetta being sidelined (since the father seemed to treat her kind of well at first), but it's not really explicitly said on page and doesn't tell us anything new, so it just it a pointless chapter overall.

Rewind the clock for what? The current marquis, her dad, isn't dead yet. Bernadetta could still persuade or force her dad to change his succession will. Plus it doesn't seem like he has officially named Sauli as his heir. Sauli was only being trained in preparation to become the heir.
Either way, maybe she can petition king to have her be named the heir. Especially if she proved herself to have made valuable achievements, and if the prince and higher nobles like Seraphina vouched for her over her brother.

Okay, so I think I might've been a bit bamboozled here? Is the entire story about the leadup to the first chapter or what? I've never been one to care too much about backstory, I'm just interested in where things progress. They've given the outcome, so the lead up, for me personally, is close to irrelevant. But I've been jumping through the manga and it seems like it's all flashback. So yeah, is that the whole thing or do we get actual fallout from the saintess overstepping? I want to see what happens to HER, now. If this is just a 'how we got here' story, I'd like to know, please. Again, not trying to insult, it's just such stories aren't my preference.

If I remember right, the original novel also has the saintess pov chapter and

she did try to change her 'everyone is equal' mindset after first chapter.

You pretty much right about this manga, they put the confrontation between characters in first chapter and the rest is the characters pov/flashbacks leadup to 1st chap and then the consequences of this confrontation. The raw currently has future king pov (after little brother, which is in the next chap) so I guess we will get future queen next and then the saintess chapters.

I personally like the story with different povs like this because we can see the other characters inner though.
