So the four aren’t evil per se, just doing things to survive. And I wouldn’t say that our MCs aren’t gonna get together: Tae Wol definitely doesn’t reciprocate Hana’s feelings, and her feelings might still be a mixture of comphet and her complete starvation from human affection and connection. That or she’s bi.

And the copium is real here. Time to accept that Tae Wol, whether physically or mentally, is a MAN. Stop denying his gender identity just cos you don’t wanna admit Hana has real attraction to a guy 😤😤😤

I hear what you're saying but the mangaka has been very ambiguous about it so far. Maybe the scanlator can shed some more light as to how Tae Wol is gendered in the original Japanese?

I'm not opposed to a bisexual protagonist (bi gal here 👋) but given the amount of rug pulls we've already had in this series, I wouldn't be surprised if Tae Wol is another one.

And I could definitely be wrong as well, it just feels like, at the moment, it’s one rug pull too far. The four newbies are surprisingly werewolves AND not enemies AND Tae Wol doesn’t actually love Hana AND they’re actually a girl. Maybe it just feels that way since it’s been so long between updates though.

Given sal jiang's past work is pretty much all yuri/wlw I thought it was pretty obvious that tae-wol was a butch/masc woman and the "surprise she isn't a man!" reveal would be for hana and not us readers 😳 I didn't realize people saw it otherwise! I guess we'll just have to wait and see huh

As Sal Jiang's fave character, either two warfreak women, hate-love romance or only one is a warfreak and the other is an airhead.😂

Don't see how it's opium when
Sal Jiang literally only makes yuri content. Like butches exist.

Yes, they do. I’m one of them. I’m a butch trans woman. What I’m also saying is that bisexual people exist. Trans men exist. Non binary people exist. And the constant speculations about Tae Wol’s gender identity, and constant assertions that they are DEFINITELY a butch woman, feels very much like the desire for erasure of gender diverse people and bisexual women in yuri manga. That’s my problem.

Tae Wol will probably be a butch woman because that’s one of the biggest tropes in yuri manga. And it’s problematic because it’s seen as a “twist”, a stepping stone on the main character’s journey towards pure lesbianism, and does nothing to actually engage with themes of gender identity, presentation, and sexual identity above the most surface level readings. And I’m a little tired of it. If Hana is attracted to Tae Wol AND think’s that they are a man does that not make her attracted to men? And if she finds out that they are a woman does it change the fact that their actual gender identity didn’t actually matter to her in the first place?

Thank you for clarifying your stance, I think I understand where you are coming from now - but at the same time I think there is still room to read Hana as bi outside of Tae-wol given her introduction was pretty much her being in love with her childhood friend yoshihiro, no? (Also a bi woman here ftr)

AAAHHHHHHHHH!!!
THE FAKE OUT PRINCE WTF, NEXT LEVEL TOMBOY JUMPSCARE

Ok but why did your dream use the words fascinating and not love? See even your subconscious is dropping red flags

Clingy even in sleep I see

Ok wait so you see he's a beast and you fall even harder in love? Wait so that's actually a dude-
Pfft yes, she senses her girlfriends in danger and must take action

I see you title drop

Ah, pawns, I forgot she had that weird relationship in her brother so she probably been projecting that only sir/miss prince, I don't remember what conclusion I came too....

Have a nice day

to be fair, the translator has used male and female language interchangably for tae-wol (this fellow, those 4 girls, etc) so it's a bit confusing. unfortunately the raws for chapter 6, where the "those 4 girls" line appears, don't appear to be available for free u.u;; however, this might be intentional?

FWIW:
  • Tae-wol appears to be a masculine name (tae being a typically-masculine part of a given name, wol just being moon (lol))
  • uses "boku"
some ambiguity seems to be intentional here-- oh, I went on Sal Jiang's twitter to see if she said anything, and she also plays into the ambiguity - "a gender-unknown person (maybe a girl? maybe a boy?)" - so I guess it's just not something we're meant to know (yet?)!

Of course i find this right at a major cliff hanger chapter. Anyway, neat story. I was kinda confused with prince moon cause i figured that only witches existed so i was like how is a guy magical if he’s a witch (only reason i could think of was maybe he’s trans) but the twist being that creatures besides witches exist makes sense. Im curious to see if this means there are secret societies for all the creatures or if the witches just oversee them all due to magic having very diverse applications that makes handling it easier unless we’re told otherwise as the world building continues.
