It never was. it is just that you probably got into manga at a young enough age where you were sort of 'indoctrinated' into accepting the tropes, but now a lot of the old tropes aren't used as much and we have new ones. For example, tsundere is totally unrealistic but if you read it was a young teenager, it seems more acceptable because guys that age don't understand girls enough to refute the concept flatly.

He meant was the part about Nanase Ren thinking calmly before confirming about the letter. That part is mostly realistic. If you're a boy and you receive a love letter from a guy, of course, you would be thinking that it was some kind of mistake and then clarify it
