I don't understand the love for soy sauce because I've had soy sauce before and it's good but when it comes to food I rank peanut butter above it.

And this is why one usually talks about "personal" taste. In regard to your two examples, I personally would rate soy sauce quite a bit above peanut butter.
But thanks to difference in preferences, cooks all over the world explore different avenues of how to make tasty dishes, leading to a plethora of great food.
