Gaslight your opponent no matter the circumstance. There it is, the the assertion that forces him to assess his own standing against her. "I am as serious if not more than you are" it implies. So good
Though it is funny that he's being led on with competitiveness like a grade schooler![]()
The only way that Hoshino will lose is if Liam is a heartless/psychopatic person. But the fact that he just call her fraud without harming her nor being manipulative, means he actually have a clear mind and a very rational person. A rational person can be convinced, you just need to appeal to their logic.I wonder if it's because Liam's used to anyone he deems "regular (ordinary)" simply cowering before him, that Hoshino facing him down--despite her physical temerity--is what's got him spooked.
If she were truly a fraud, perhaps he figures she'd crack under the pressure of being made to "walk the talk". That she isn't, while being up-front about stuff like the fact she won't breach confidentiality--even if it'd "mean her loss" in their little game--probably is setting off alarm bells for Liam, because she's reacting entirely counter to his lived experience (at least insofar as what we've seen in the chapters he's appeared in, when dealing with anyone who wasn't Elnston or Sage).
Which, given how he seems relatively straightforward as an individual, is raising his hackles. Someone who appears weak and mild, not being that way in a manner that reads as authentic, is enough of a discordance that it'd make any individual accustomed to clear definitions of "power" second-guess their situation, I wager.
Unsure of how this'll proceed, except that I assume Hoshino will ultimately "win" and convince Liam of her ability and her utility for the Hero's Party. How that happens, and what transpires past that - well, I look forward to seeing it all play out.
Thanks for the chapters.

I think there are some "correction" needed.and now we will never know
edit: just looked it up, we got until ch.24, kinda good to learn what happened, super bad because the series gonna get axed and feels bad because the author is genuinely good, but he's a sex offender, so only time will tell if he can fix his future.
no need for correction, I know who this author is (after he got thrown under the bus), sexual assault makes him a sex offender, not confusing him with the other guy (that is waaaay worse), the sentence was light, I agree on that.I think there are some "correction" needed.
First of all, this is not the same author who was recently outed for doing very fucked up shit. The author of this manga, Matsuki Tatsuya, commited sexual assault against minors a few years ago, which resulted in him getting cancelled (including his manga ACT-AGE, a very popular manga back then). He served his sentence (a very light one btw).
Secondly, there are a lot of conflicted info around so I can't confirm whether the publisher reached out to him or he submitted this manga under a different pen name. Either way, pretty sure the publisher knew who he was, and still greenlit this manga, and now they are throwing him under the bus since they got caught doing the same shit with another paedophilic author.
Tatsuya did stupid shit before, and his sentence was light (Japan is notorious for being lenient with sexual assaults), still I don't think he deserves getting cancelled this time. Sure, the publisher has all the rights to do so if they don't want their image to be associated with a child sex offender, but they already ran with this manga fully knowing well this is him. Outing his new pen name (thus smearing their own image) is their own doing. It is shady as fuck when the author should have a second chance.
Hopefully some publisher with a backbone picks this manga up. I can understand ACT-AGE situation (especially when it was Shounen Jump), but this time he is not even doing anything bad. Dude clearly has talents. If his previous sentence was light, then that is the issue with Japanese laws, not him.
