I can't wait for the final chapter, where Ryouta looks at himself in the mirror, blinks a few times, and realizes that this whole time he was actually super handsome all along, like a model. What we'd been seeing up to that point was actually the faulty image he had of himself, which was totally off-kilter because of the concussion he got when he fell off the roof of his elementary school seven years ago.
Then he turns around and realizes that all the girls were actually super plain the whole time, too, with him seeing them differently being another side-effect of his concussion. Then they start speaking German, asking him what's wrong and why he's staring at them with such wide eyes, and he realizes that he's actually been German living in Germany all along. He runs over the window to confirm this, only to see a bunch of bomber planes flying through the sky, and he realizes that he's currently living through World War I.
The girls (Eike, Julie, & Melanie) are like, "Hey, Rüdiger, we've got to get to the shelter! The British are here!" But he runs off without saying anything to them, heading in the direction of his old elementary school, the one he fell off of seven years prior.
When he gets there, Kanade is waiting for him, but it turns out her name is actually Katinka, and she's smiling with a strange glint in her eyes, saying 「少女に待たせる方が良くない、リョウタ」. He stares at her for a moment before realizing that even though, in his hallucinations, she was his childhood friend, in his newfound German reality, he's never met her before.
She approaches him, but he backs away in fear, tripping over a mysterious object and falling to the ground. Katinka rushes over to him and help him up, patting his back as he stands. But that is when he realizes who she is. She is his childhood friend, he's just never met her. Not for real. He glances into a window of the school and sees an old drawing hung up there, a crude drawing of the girl standing before him now.
Echoes of the past ricochet through his mind: "She's not real!" and "Rüdiger thinks his imaginary friend is real!" and "We're not in Kindergarten anymore!" Then, he looks up and sees an image of two shadows sitting next to each other on the rooftop. He can tell they are talking to each other, but he can't hear what they say. Katinka just smiles at him the whole time.
Eike, Julie, and Melanie arrive, out of breath. They shout at Katinka, ask her what she's doing to "Rüdiger." The voices continue to echo through his mind, eventually turning into a dull ring, blocking out everything else. He glances at the ground, towards the object he had tripped on.
A gun.
He screams, holding his hands to his head, and runs towards the building, scrambling up an old maintenance ladder to get to the roof. His eyes are mad. He stops to catch his breath, but when he looks up, Katinka is there. She gestures to the left, towards the side of the roof facing away from the schoolyard. There, he sees them. Airi, Yuria, and Kuroki, as he had been seeing them before, floating in the air, just barely out of reach. Eike, Julie, and Melanie shout at him from below.
He runs towards them, and as he does, he once more feels a familiar hand on his back.
Then, everything goes black. He wakes up back in the Japanese school that he had grown used to. The three girls he had been used to seeing every day are standing before him, laughing as if nothing was happening at all. He opens his mouth to speak.
終わり。
Author's Comment: "Ryouta's happy days will continue forever! Thank you for reading." (In German.)
The cover of the final volume is Rüdiger laying on the ground, covered in mud, as rain falls. He's laughing to himself. Three pairs of feet surround him, the faces of their owners out of frame. The undercover is Ryouta laying in bed while the three girls fawn over him. The back cover is Katinka standing on the roof.
...Anyways, what was I talking about?
Oh, right, Kanade's awesome. This should be her harem, with Ryouta just being one of the four members.
