This is giving me similar vibes to Ushiro no Seki (The gal sitting behind me), or Horimiya, where there's just...a reasonably paced development of feelings.
Unfortunately, that USUALLY either leads into absurd plot twists to keep the status quo (which tends to delegitimize the characters), OR a very quick end to a series when it runs its course.
I like the realism in the main characters - inexperienced in love and thus awkward, but not so extreme as to be a caricature of a real person. I hope this manga takes these feelings, hits a relationship in a reasonable time frame, and goes further past that like the aforementioned Ushiro no Seki
It does slow down a little bit (after all, she's already crushing super hard after maybe a week of interaction), but it never really feels stretched out too badly.

Right now, Chapter 11 of the manga ends near the end of Vol. 1, Ch. 5 of the light novel (or the middle of Ch. 19 of the web novel). Ayaka, panicking about this being her first love, wonders if she should immediately confess, but Saki urges her to take it a little more slowly to make sure that Haruto grows more interested in Ayaka first.

There's a little bit of frustration about their pace, but it's realistic:

- Ayaka doesn't want to sour her first romance by rushing things she has no idea about. It's her first crush, after all, and she has very little experience with boys. Her knowledge is primarily manga based, which as Saki points out isn't really realistic and is primarily meant to entertain.

- Hayato is resisting for multiple reasons of his own:
1. He's technically working for her family, so getting close may cross worker/customer lines he's not willing to cross.
2. He believes their social standings are a bit too different, which as a reminder is a very important thing in Japanese culture.
3. Due to losing his parents at a young age, he still has some repressed issues with letting people who aren't already long-time friends and family get too emotionally close.

They do go on a couple of dates. After one of them, Haruto comes home to find his grandmother suffering from heatstroke. At the hospital, he's so frazzled about his only living relative being ill that he fibs a bit, telling her that he does in fact have a girlfriend (so she doesn't need to worry about his relationships) and giving Ayaka's general description. Shenanigans happen, and Haruto and Ayaka end up acting as pretend boyfriend and girlfriend for his grandma's sake, which Ayaka cunningly leverages to propose "couples practice" where they spend time together, and Haruto's resistances gradually wear down.

Things eventually come to a head, with Haruto clearing the air with his grandma and confessing to Ayaka for real, with her reciprocating. This happens at the end of Vol. 3, Ch. 9 of the light novel (or the end of Ch. 74 of the web novel). They end up dating for real... but it doesn't stop there. After all, they haven't even returned to school after summer break.

So, there's that, and more dates, and other plot developments with classmates and such. There's quite a bit of story still to go through. The light novels are up to Volume 5, which covers up through Ch. 129 of the web novel. One part I'm looking forward to in the light novels is when their classmates finally learn that the two are dating, since Ayaka wanted to keep it a secret for a while. That officially happens in Ch. 134 of the web novel, but the chapters before and after that are part of the whole general reveal. And just so you know, the web novel is currently up to Ch. 200. Yeah, there's a lot. Especially since they've talked it through in Ch. 184 and decide they'll plan to marry some time after graduation, effectively becoming engaged. And they get Ayaka's parents' blessing in the following chapter.

There is definitely a lot more material to come.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a romcom before where the best friend character recognizes that they’re in a romcom due to the blatantly obvious let’s-put-these-two-together inciting incident. Amusing, I liked it.

You realized your feelings now? Good. Then, just get married already and have kids. Abe will approve. :pacman:

Then go ask your mangaka to give you those. :wooow:
Well at least they didn't drag her out now all she has to do is confess I'm sure he will accept of course and it will be nice to have a series with them as a couple rather than misunderstandings and drama that make everything take forever to get done

Cute and not drawn out.
Yeah it's nice to have a series that doesn't waste your time with meaningless stuff that you know isn't going to be important, a lot of nowadays just waste your time and dry things out indefinitely of course rental gf is most famous though there are many others to a lesser degree
