I can't judge Akashi for getting anxiety about Kagei's intentions. He has a record. But I wonder what is truly happening... Is he feeling very insecure because of his family pressure and Akashi friendzoning him?

the chapter is full of cute stuff but there's an underlying sense of unease :O The food budget scene was so funny though

I don't think it's the family pressure, but perhaps he's used to people trying to use him because of his family. Personally, I think Kagei is holding back his true personality and desires because Akashi seems to be happy with his "masked" version as a friend and doesn't want to trouble Akashi further.

Maybe not pressure, but I don't think it's just about how people outside of the family see him. In chapter 3 he had a call with his mother that ruined his mood. Just cutting ties, assuming he did cut ties, wouldn't immediately solve all the complicated feelings.

But I agree he's holding back and that's affecting his mood. Seeing Akashi truly scared of him seems to have had a big impact. I think his situation with Akashi might be somewhat mirroring his issues with his family. Maybe a belief that they only like him when he acts according to their preferences?

this manga is somehow a realistic, unsettling, yet sweet depiction of the trope of the “obsessive love interest”. Kagei’s actions are extreme, but the author seems to intentionally pull back from some of the yandere cliches and renders him in a more complex and layered way. I keep expecting the story to hit this or that beat, but it always swerves it a bit

yessss, thats exactly how i would describe the chapter too, its really funny but also smth is a bit off TT

there were alot of jokes in this chapter actually, i didnt get a chance to explain them, but i'll do so now!!

the wafers are a reference to Shokugan aka wafer collectibles/cards which has a collectible along with a wafer! So akashi having that big box was him just buying a bunch of wafers cards to get the collectibles LOL

the sleeping position I decided to translate as square brackets ][ but in the original jp it was actually the kanji "北"! if you look at the kanji's shape it looks like their sleeping positions 😭 it took me a while to figure out how to translate that and yeaaa i ended up on ][ (i guess its close enough!)

yeah, kagei and akashi are surprisingly very alike and i reallllly like how hotonaka did his character!! This manga always throws me for a loop but im here for this clown show between these two losers 😝
