It makes a lot of sense that Albus thinks the height of Merida's wish, which is to create a world of smiles, can only be fulfilled if the most doomed person in the world, the Demon King's vessel, can also smile in his 'Perfect Future'.
We also get to see a bit of Fiona's survivor's guilt and how little she values her own life (practically 0). Albus standing up to the Oracle saying her life is worth all the loops really shows how much he values hers in turn. I find the message that Albus didn't need any special reason to save her very meaningful; he sees equal value in his companions and sticks by his principles.
