It probably was, but then got picked up because it makes for an interesting iyashikei isekai. I do like the fact that this is the first reincarnated to another world story where there's a concrete and painful reason the MC gets reincarnated. It's not some whim of a goddess, three immortal souls burned up so that the kids who died young could get another chance at life.
Because even terrible people get to be reincarnated. The whole point of it is to get your life right, even if you start over as a snail and have to work back up to human.Why should the mother have to carve her soul apart to ensure the children's happiness? Why can't the father's soul be destroyed and sacrificed for his sins?

are you perhaps a god? like wtf, it's the author choice to make the mother and both sides of grandparents sacrifice for the kids to be together, it was a nice moment to show that even in death they were watching over them and now they are going to be part of them for their mortal life. They could have just been added to the cycle or reincarnation but the family wanted for them to be happy together and get a chance in life, a price has to be paid...
