I mean yeah, and a bullying backstory doesn't really fit her that well now that I think about it, but on the other hand it is still a romcom manga so it's pretty likely.

Her staying in the infirmary most, if not, all of the time. Her knowing Aya-sensei (who seems to be the school clinician) on a first name basis, we seeing her lying in the clinic bed, "scars".
I see 2 routes:

The generic teaser to a dark backstory of Mio that'll be addressed later.
Or a death flag.

Whichever Sumutemu-sensei will pick, both will still be peak. PEAK HAPPINESS or PEAK DESPAIR

I'm surprised that so many think this is a death flag. Personally, I think she has trauma related to her parents. Based on chapters 13 and 14.5, and the fact that she is buying dinner at a store, I think she is living alone. Considering her attitude, I also think that she doesn't have a parent figure. So I think her parents are dead, and that's why she has trauma.
