the story starts to feel a bit different from the anime around chapters 35.2 and 36. chapter 36 doesn’t even show up in OVA/special episode, but I’m pretty sure the LN covers this part, even if it’s not detailed and it kinda feels like Gurena is intentionally provoking Luna to make her jealous, her jealous face is actually scary meanwhile Yuuya as usual, is still completely dense

Its been a while since I read this, but I didn't think Yuuya was actually that dense. I always thought that he was just not very used to socializing and relationships. He has his past traumas with his family, and is only now able to have a tiny bit of self confidence because of the people around him helping him realize his own self worth.

Yuuya has been egotistically crippled because of all of the abuse and neglect he has suffered through until now. He was only able to survive and not mentally break thanks to his inherent good nature forcing him to act regardless of his situation, and his late grandfather acting as the sanity check for his childhood traumas. The man is in high-school and his own two younger siblings have already tried to cripple or kill him, and his parents show obvious favoritism towards them. He grew up with a displeasing complexion and appearance in a family that placed a hugh value on physical appearances.

Yuuya should need a lot of trauma therapy. But, he has a cheat-like world that handles that for him. However, he has no social skills having never been able to or even allowed to develop them until now. So I always took his passiveness towards romantic relationships as him slowly working himself out of his trauma and growing his own self worth.

I believe he does recognize their interest in him (partially because they make it pretty obvious), he himself just isn't mentally and socially ready to take that next step just yet (although marriage is still quite the excessive next step to take). He also probably doesn't want to make things awkward between them with a straightforward rejection or a postponement of his answer, so he kind of just downplays or shifts the conversation away whenever it pops up.
