Huh, the contrast between the happy "just finished shopping, on my way now" from last chapter and the really awkward interaction here made me think initially that she might be hooking up with someone else and the guy we've met is an ex situationship, but the comments (on Dynasty) seem sure it's the same guy so now I'm not sure. Either way, this is a cool development, which with only 7 chapters you kind of have to have a proactive protagonist. Good luck Nina! This looks like it'll still end poorly for you!

I read it as she likes him and so just being able to spend any time with him doing whatever he wants is enough to make her happy, but given how she was saying that bottle wasn't hers and how he needs to hide it he is with multiple women. Probably a guy who has a few people he sleeps with but he won't commit or has a girlfriend which is why the situation is "complicated". Would also be why she doesn't think she deserves better (she knows his position and thinks its an honor to even be near) and also has changed herself so much in college to be more attractive to "win" him.

Given this is less than 10 chapters in length, Nina's proactive decision making here is only appropriate.
But for her character, it's also encouraging--because it means she's not going to take this destruction of the Mao-senpai in her head & heart lying down. Just in terms of her getting a shot at her happy ending, this is good news and a good development for her.

I am curious as to what happened to Mao in the span of time that Nina hadn't been around--she went from this quiet, but clearly self-possessed individual to someone who changed everything about herself for the sake of a guy who is clearly with multiple women simultaneously, and doesn't care about "getting details correct" in compartmentalizing those relationships. Or, worse, not where Mao specifically is concerned.
So something must have happened to shake her and shape her into the woman before Nina today. It's just....quite the shift, and not the sort of regression of identity you'd expect when it seems like someone's gotten it "figured out" in the middle of adolescence. And if that is the case, then the question becomes whether Nino can do something to affect change again.
Whether or not Mao can, or more importantly wants, to become like she used to be, is of course still unknown. But I'd trust Nina to be cognizant of whether her friend and senpai is happy, and to push toward making her so if she isn't.

Nina's outrage boiling over is reassuring, though, because if I didn't know this was a short-form series I'd worry she would just roll over and scream in her head but ultimately never make a move. Never have I been so happy to be proven wrong, though.

lmao that would be total dogshit as a story. It's crazy that there are people that actually work that way though. "Ok I've weighed you on the scale and found that you have two traits I personally find undesirable. You have been judged valueless, the feelings I've held for the last few years have all vanished." If you can offhandedly dismiss everything a person you'd once loved has become just because you don't like one or two things that have changed, I would call that solipsistic and a little immature.

It's fine to have personal boundaries, but this is a story about reconnecting after separation. Obviously people change, and if you don't care about the history beyond finding a way to "fix" the changes you dislike about somebody, then that just isn't love.

Okay that... is actually true though. I do love my slop. You sidestepped what I was actually saying though.
I wasn't talking specifically about this. You could plug in characters from a lot of things and the "wow, you changed, perish" way of thinking would still be callous. Not that it always makes for bad storytelling... fuck wait I think I might just be wrong altogether lmao.

I still don't think second lead is a bad person or something though, having low self-worth and a smoking habit is kinda just normal.
