That and the reason the war began in the first place. The first chapter basically just says "yeah, they just showed up out of nowhere and just started murdering people," which doesn't actually explain anything. Plus, "they sudden attacked us for no reason" gives off huge "its our fault, but these are our history textbooks so we're going to pretend its not" vibes. (You know, like American colonists and indigenous Americans.) Plus, the intro claims that humans and demons never interacted before the war, but, assuming the boy in Lieselotte's flashback on p30 is Schmerz, (which, like, come on) that's obviously not true.

We also see a consistent disdain for demons coming from humans, and while we haven't seen very many demons as of yet, the ones we have don't seem to reciprocate that. Lieselotte's in love with a human, of course, but presumably if she did come from a human-hating culture, she should still have some deep-set biases, you know? And her maid doesn't seem to have anything like that at all. To be fair, her "open-mindedness" could be the reason she's the one here rather than some other maid, but again she should still have some internalized biases if she's coming from a culture that widely hates humans. The closest she gets to this is saying that "fear is all it take a human to surrender," but this is clearly a point of demon pride rather than perceived human weakness.

Another point against demons just being inherently evil murderers is the fact that it was the demons that proposed peace and that they were able to get their public to support this. Plus, it was a demon that fell in love with a human.

So while its not like this is 100% definitely what the author's going for, I think that there's a very real possibility that the humans were actually he ones that started the war in the first place, with the painting of demons as "evil" being a form of propaganda to justify it.

And "demons are actually misunderstood" is like a whole trope and probably not especially strange to expect in a series about a romance between a human and a demon.
On the other hand though, their values are very much in line with the brutal image we were presented. During their marriage ceremony it was pretty explicit that the maid wanted her to demonstrate a level of overpowering fear to everyone, and her praise for the princess was…unflattering to humans at best.

Though I'd say that a culture that values strength and presenting yourself confidently isn't necessarily evil and isn't necessarily the sort of culture that would go to war for no reason.

Had to drop an "I love women" from Shmerz there so the readers wouldn't suspect the whole conflict is because he's secretly gay.

You know i understand hatred between the 2 race is understandable..

But does the guy ever understand the big picture, does he want a war occur again. Another bloodshed and another death all because the guy can't see the big picture. Being racist and being ignorant is 2 different thing. Being racist while still recognizing the bigger picture is great cause he knows the overall future would be better.

But being ignorant would just simply cause unnecessary bloodshed

The story has not yet outlined how the demons acted in general nor the extent in which the committed attrocities. For instance, we don't know why the invaded nor if the slaughtering of non-combatants were issued commands.

On the leadership point, I don't think it would be TOO surprising if two enemy leaders fell in love and married. It just depends on the extent in which violent acts were committed.
If demons started attacking humans without an order from their king, the king is still responsible, they’re just also incompetent as a leader for not being able to control their people. Even if that happened, the demons went all-in on the war anyway, at the direction of the king.

The MC guy said himself that the demons “oppressed and murdered ALL of his friends, everyone in his village, …“ how much more personal does it need to be? Look at all the wars just between humans that go way back and are filled with bloodshed. It would be the equivalent of decorated military leaders from Israel and Iran falling in love. Sorry, that’s impossible.

MC is definitely overexaggerating here (if the demons wiped out ALL of mankind then why are the kingdom still stand?). Plus as seen
in his flashback, where only a few bodies are seen.
, he's clearly too young to recall the events accurately.

He never said that the demons killed all of mankind. He said they killed all of his friends.

So if it’s only a few friends who got killed then he’s overreacting?

How many pieces of shit need to be in a pool before you won’t swim in

I don’t think “Striking fear into other’s hearts” is the same as “presenting yourself confidently”, and if they value strength I feel like that’s even more of an obvious reason for them to go to war, simply to prove their strength to others and dominate them
