I definitely think its the best friend. He stated before heading to the school that MC use to be afraid of girls, which gives an explanation to why he was presenting as male. Why would he have a uniform that matches the girl crossdressers if its a hand-me-down when this is the first year this school has had girls and therefore a girls uniform (if he was wearing a different schools uniform, it could have been his last schools boy uniform, and he wouldn't need to do his hair or makeup regardless of the clothes). Then we also have his super concern about the girl being outed near the end (which that technically could have been him worried he couldn't seduce MC if he doesn't consider him a girl).

It seems likely to me too but I hope he's not because I wanna see how off the wall this series can go.

I look forward to one of these “weird gender ratio” series where there’s like 30 women to 1 man and then the protag goes “ummmm actually guys 🏳️‍⚧️” and the title has to be revised to “31 women to 0 men”

At some point there will be a huge reveal that one character is a girl. It will seem like the series is wrapping up until the school quietly updates their website to 2 girls.

Girly isn't attracted to this girl because of unrelated reasons. And so Girly's quest to find a girlfriend continues...

Getting heavy trans vibes from Kitano with the whole being moved by Girly wanting to reinvent himself and “debut,” getting anxious during the assembly, and seemingly being way more comfortable with presenting female than an ordinary person with some amount of focus on masculinity would be.

The debuting/reinventing yourself angle is the standout point to me, like Kitano was closeted and not willing to come out and Girly’s conviction is what inspired them to start presenting this way. Guess we’ll see but that’s my read currently.
