I like how the author tried to explain MC fast promotions, he satisfated the requirements for them but that made elites and nobles pissed at him + how it made it harder to bury the circumstances.
Old commissioner called him "bad luck", but is the opposite, MC arriving made 3 coast gaurds corrupted or incompetent officials lose their protection, and a famous pirate crew was arrested.
Is likely that if Dusty didn't have MC as a sacrifice he would have run away, leaving the pirates do their stuff, or tried a standard attack, that had big chances to make his ship lose as he was commanding it instead of leaving things to his capable subordinates, demoted to be there for being commoners.

Now the military decided to promote him so that the royal order will go without trouble and hoping for MC to go down after getting a charge too big too fast, is like if a warehouse employee became the storage area boss after a week, he wouldn't be able to do things right, they of course ignore MC capable subordinates and him being at the top in the academy.

MC first assignment is to fix the shitbox he just got, they count on him being unable to repair the ship as he just entered the military, doesn't know how things work and have no connections on the field or outside to help him, if he have a high rank but is unable to fix his own ship it would be enough to bring him down.

Yeah i just realized that as well. There’s no way she’s ranked that high. Proofie didn’t know naval ranks and let the mistranslation pass lol. Ch10 had Merika ranked at 2nd Lt., which i assume is her correct rank at the time.
