My honest belief is the author intended for Himari to win, but screwed up their own plot so badly they couldn't think of any believable way to get that title ship to make sense. Guessing an editor canned it before it had the chance to get even more stupid. Still, Himari losing is a win for me.

I find it odd that out of all the fmcs in the manga honoka had the least amount of development shown. like im fine with her winning in the end but it seemed like the effort put into giving her development was quite lackluster am I wrong for thinking so? Its as if they left something out and it doesnt quite sit well with me

So agree with. Author should took out the model, and gave honoka those moments of getting close with his family then I would understand it and probably would have the feeling of enjoyment instead of wasted time

If I were to force myself to like how things were handled in the last chapter, this would be an acceptable ending. All of Hima's build-up after Kanai's Idol event just feels really wasted, and this conclusion feels like a friend zone more than them being 'best friends'. Everything just moved REALLY abruptly in the last chapter, which forced this timeskip cliche. If the story had a few more chapters between the last and this one, I think the mangaka could've convinced everyone of KanaixTenchi, and didn't jam pack a Tenchi's declaration of love, asking to move in together, and a KISS (which appalled me, but that's just me) in a single chapter. Overall, I had high hopes for this story after the 'Kanai-wears-the-Himariz-lipstick-arc', but things became very drawn out and unsatisfying personally. I did like how Kanna was handled though, despite being my least favorite character.

It just feels, again, like "confessing" is the goal. I think a final volume... another 5 chapters maybe, would have been good. It really feels like the whole point of the story was to find out who is the winner, and not the result of the growth and then why. Kind of like how 2.5D manga build it up until it finally happened. In this case, it was the very last 2 chapters, and then the epilogue. Things seem static too. The way we left things is the way things stayed after the time skip, we don't know much about anyone except "things worked out." What else did we learn from this ordeal? Oh well.

Honestly, this was a good ending event wise.... The issue is that endings are hard and jump is strict about making sure there are enough chapters for a volume....

So this means that they're probably wasn't enough for her to fill out a whole volume.

So there is a good chance that we're going to get an extra epilogue or something in the volume release....

Put this often creates the problem where the author either has to rush the ending or drag out the ending and write it badly...

And authors usually go for the rushed ending because they often get writer's block for the very end, and they literally have a time limit of only a week.

So we need to remember that these authors are usually rushed per chapter and they have to be able to fill the volume limit.

So if they usually need only one or two more chapters, they will usually just not use those two chapters...

And it's not unusual for the epilogue that's only in the volumes to be a lot better because they often have more time to work on it.

thats it? feels like Honoka was barely in the entire story and when she wins she gets what like 5 pages. I really dont have a problem with her winning but it genuinely feels like the author wanted to actually tell Himari's story

Honestly, the vast majority of stories like this usually have the main hero in winning.

I believe there was literally only one single story like this where the main characters original crush one and that won was actually very badly done because we never actually got any development at all and he didn't even know her...

Though to be fair on the author's part, it was mainly because that serious was axed.

This is one of the rare stories where the main heroine is the second girl he grows close to and yet he still gets with his original crush.

And I think the story actually did a pretty good job with her.

Like she didn't get the same amount of attention as Hima which is why I think it's so shocking, but you need to remember that we've had plenty of chapters of them focusing on liking each other.

We've had a lot of chapters of Iemori and Kanai actually liking each other, and a few chapters of them actually getting along, and even chapters of them being on a date.

And we need to remember that, they already had a history and crush even before the series started.

I think the main issue is that she wasn't the main heroine, so it's a little bit jarring.

The story wasn't about her relationship.

And most of the time when the main character gets with a girl, it's because the story is usually about their relationship, or the main story isn't focused on romance at all.

This was a story where the relationship was a huge focus and yet he didn't get together with that girl.

And that almost never happens, so it probably feels jarring and unnatural.

Kanai had more than five chapters of development, and it's actually not that badly done... It's just weird that it happened in this kind of story...

And when you add on the fact that the last chapter isn't very good... It makes it look a little worse...

Though I think that no matter what, the last chapter was probably going to be bad. Authors often have a very difficult time writing a good ending.

And it doesn't help the fact that while getting this far, they got pretty good at writing the middle part of a story. So even if the ending is decent, if it doesn't match the quality of the rest of the story we're not going to like it.

And because the fact that we didn't just read the story straight, but actually followed it for literally two years of our lives, that means we not only want something that satisfies the the story but also satisfies our two years. And that is a very tall order.

I disagree with this childhood friend deal, there are several works that I can think of where childhood friend or similar character win, and ten out of ten times, its pretty meh. I can think of the Shuffle anime for one, like MC doesn't end with princess of demons or gods, or the hybrid, or the psycho childhood friend, but he ends up with the big sis childhood friend who might as well have been air. I think the Da Capo anime also ends this way, but its been a long time since I saw, but recall MC ending up with the brown haired friend. The World God Only Knows, is kind of not a child hood friend ending but basically is, where he ends up with the blandest character possible, the one boring girl with zero traits other than she kind of meets the MC early on the show. I think these show why childhood friend endings are less common, though clearly not uncommon, because there just isn't any development to the character, their defining feature is childhood friend but that's it. And so when it happens, most people are like why waste my time spending 100 chapters working on every other character and then this.

Id say the only legit theory is , is the theory the "exotic" character is never picked, which can also be combined with the "weird" character is never picked outside of Hinata. I mean in most harems, authors throw in all these weird and wild characters, and I can rarely think of any show where the author doesn't go back and crawl and pick the yamato nadeshiko/plain jane character. Its like the author has this fetishism of I want to tease something exotic, but then is like I am a normal Japanese citizen and must pick the standard choice (aka I am Isekai'd , and I wont do anything outside of standard Japanese norms even in a fantasy world). Although this is largely a problem done away with in modern times, when harem endings have become a thing, this was more during the high age of Tenchi, where that was literally the only show that had a harem ending, every other show had either the one girl picked or the no resolution ending.

I agree with the other comments. The ending is far too rushed, Honoka doesn't have much character growth and in fact not even much presence in the entire manga.

The author used so much time on himari, and none on her. Ok, she won but this is not satisfactory. And definitely rushed.

Very meh ending. (And the whole polish thing feels so... forced. Corny. Weird)
