Lets assume these creatures spawned in the abyssal zone (3,000m to 6,000m underwater). At 3,000m underwater, the speed of sound (Mach 1) is approximately 3,400mph.

3,400 x 40,000 = 136,000,000 mph

Granted, this is still below lightspeed (671,000,000 mph), so it's not like it's breaking that particular law of physics. But over 100 million mph while underwater probably breaks plenty of other laws of physics.

btw, a typical waterjet cutter only blasts water out at up to 2,500 mph

Yeah I expected something like this. A lot of authors seem to like to throw around big numbers without realizing what they mean.

I don't know how you got those numbers, because Google says that speed of light (299,792,458 meters per second) is ~874,030 Mach (1 Mach is 343 meters per second) and what we have here is 40,000 Mach (x 343 meters per second = 13,600,000 meters per second).

Speed of sound is faster under water, depending on like the depth, temperature and even stuff like the salinity of the water. So, that's probably where they got their numbers from.

Damn, even Aqua wouldn't have neglected her world to the extent that something like that would go unnoticed. She wouldn't have done anything about it unless she would benefit or at least avoid punishment by doing so, but she would know it was there.

P2 just feels like an endless sequence of over the top battles without much story progression. Maybe editors pushed for that after the adaptation.

Stagnant magic and chaos bringing magic tools are the kinds of things Eris has to clean up on Aqua's behalf. Though Aqua could probably dip her finger into the water near there, to clean up the demonic corruption, if she had actually noticed it.

Using 1.48 km/s as Mach 1 underwater, we get 59'200 km/s. The speed of light is 299'792 km/s, so we're now at 19.7% of the speed of light.

The kraken and its surrounding would turn into a nuclear bomb, the crust of the planet would be punctured at that location, there would be a planet-wide earthquake, the water, formerly water and the crust would be ejected into space, fall back as radioactive glowing hot glass that sets fire to everything and form a nuclear winter, there would be a planet-scale tsunami destroying all coastlines, oceans would lose all their oxygen and it would rain acid.

We're talking total destruction of multicellular life on the planet.

Because a kraken moved.

IIRC this was pointed out in earlier chapters, the goddess is omnipotent but not omnipresent, she can only observe what she wanted to see. So in this case she never thought an anomaly can be born undersea, so she never monitor it which then slipped under her radar.

Exactly. Mach 1 (The speed of sound) is NOT a constant speed. It depends entirely on what the soundwave is traveling through.

SchultzD's 343 m/s is correct if we measure Mach 1 in air at sea level at 19.6 °C
